Description

Thanks for coming to my home! So, kick off your shoes and stay a while. Feel free to launch the po-out music player and take it with you and listen while you surf or play! There are more than 75 great songs on it. Please view my pictures, too! There are some good ones from my back-packing trip through Europe when I was 20 yrs old. Some other funny and whacky clips of my past as well....LOL!

Hello everyone. I have FINALLY gotten out of San Antonio, Texas! I have been playing poker for a few years but just got into playing on-line in the past 24 months. I moved to S.A. from Richmond, Va a few years ago, where I owned a home and a business for many years, to be closer to my sister. Unfortunately, I encountered some serious health issues that prohibit me from working. So, playing on-line poker has really turned into an interesting and fun way to pass the time. I have an 9 yr old siberian husky, named Alex, (i got him when he was just 5 weeks old) that has turned out to be the best dog I have ever had. He felt the same way I did about the weather back in San Antonio - too hot & humid! I am now back on the beautiful, east coast, in upstate South Carolina! Hopefully, the next move for me will be into a motorhome, so I can live wherever I want. (N.E. in summer and Vegas in the winter....)

I really enjoy this site and have gained valuable knowledge and varied perspectives to compliment and strengthen my game. For those of you I have already met and played with - thank you - and those I have yet to - I look forward to it! Good luck at the tables, have fun and be safe out there!

"The first things I remember are frosty Carolina mornin's with a cheery fire crackilin' in my mommas' big, black wood-cook stove. I remember snow flakes as big as goose feathers and the moon the color of new-made country butter, in a night sky like diamonds against black velvet - reachin' from horizon to horizon. I remember sitting on the front porch with my grandaddy and watching the last of that magnificent, southern sun bleed away into the twilight sky. I remember sunday school, kneelin' at the cross and tryin' to imagine what God looked like. Sunday dinners, short pants, haircuts and a little puppy my daddy brought home to me.... and I remeber Love! I remember steam-puffin', fire-breathin', awsome ten-wheeled locomotives and the conductors watch looked as big as one of my grandmother's biscuits! I remember my mother smilin' in a red and white checkered dress. And Christmas always seemed so far away! Yes, I remeber you Carolina, grand old lady of the south.... I remember you as Home!"

Charlie Daniels - "Carolina, (I remeber you)" as remembered, word for word by me as the most beautiful beginning to any song I have ever heard!

Pot Limit and the Rebuy

After returning from Nashville this past weekend I played the $1500 Pot Limit as my first WSOP event on Monday. As the dealer dealt my first hand I began to wonder if the first two cards I was dealt were going to hold some sign of how the whole series was going to go for me. Would I be dealt a big pocket pair the first hand off the deck? My heart beat fast and I anxiously shuffle my cards together and then slowly peeked down to find 6/3 off-suit. I smile to myself as if life called my own bluff and said "your on your own kid, don't look for something outside yourself to control your own destiny."

"Kenna James: Poker Player, Actor, and Patriot" - pt. I

Mon, 15 Oct 2007 14:51:58 -0500
by Justin West

Traveling the globe and playing in the biggest poker tournaments the world has to offer, Kenna James is one of the most recognizable and charismatic poker players on the circuit today.

Since Kenna's first recorded tournament cash, a fourth place finish in an event at the American Poker Classic hosted by the Bicycle Casino in May of 2000, Kenna has gone on to earn an impressive 14 first place finishes, more than a hundred major tournament cashes, and almost $3 Million in winnings in the process.

To help usher in his official joining of the PokerPages team, Kenna took a few minutes out of his busy schedule to offer his thoughts on poker, patriotism, and even his career as an actor.

Although I don't consider myself a cowboy, I like the style of "Cowboy" Kenna James.

Pretty cool Logo!

Sharp dressed man at the tables.

This looks like a pretty good life to me!

  • Note: When drawing to a full house or four of a kind with a pocket pair that has hit trips (three of a kind) on the flop, there are 6 outs to get a full house by pairing the board and one out to make four of a kind. This means that if the turn does not pair the board or make four of a kind, there will be 3 additional outs on the river, for a total of 10, to pair the turn card and make a full house. This makes the probability of drawing to a full house or four of a kind on the turn or river 0.334 and the odds are 1.99 : 1. This makes drawing to a full house or four of a kind by the river about 8½ outs.

David Apostolico clearly makes this tournament play assertion (that gathering chips is a must), in his Strategies of Sun-Tzu book: "Tournament Poker and the Art of War." David identifies ten specific principles which are:

  1. Understand all the potential consequences of your actions so that you may properly balance the competing goals of survival and chip accumulation.
  2. Play each hand for maximum value with minimal risk.
  3. If you have the opportunity to eliminate your opponent, you must do it.
  4. Take advantage of any opportunity to accumulate chips from your opponent. Once you gain a substantial chip lead, you strengthen your force allowing you to attack your opponent more effectively.
  5. Mix up your play so that your opponent cannot get a read on you. When your opponent is unable to comprehend your play, he cannot completely control his own play.
  6. If you know the enemy and know yourself, you will have the opportunity to exploit the situation to your benefit.
  7. Play strength to maximum value when your opponent is weak.
  8. In No Limit Hold'em Tournaments, you cannot afford to wait for every factor to be in your favor in order to make a play for the pot. Stay abreast of the situation so that you may take calculated risks to create an edge where none is perceived.
  9. The situation is constantly changing in No Limit Tournaments. Know how all of the factors compromising the situation are changing so that you may adjust your play accordingly.
  10. Poker is an art of deception

Friends are like balloons; once you let them go, you might not get them back. Sometimes we get so busy with our own lives and problems that we may not even notice that we've let them fly away. Sometimes we are so caught up in who's right and who's wrong that we forget what's right and wrong. Sometimes we just don't realize what real friendship means until it is too late. I don't want to let that happen so I'm gonna tie you to my heart so I never lose you. Send this to all your friends including me and see how many you get back. Even send it to your balloons that you think have flown away forever.
