I know how Fortune is ever most friendly and alluring to those whom she strives to deceive, until she overwhelms them with grief beyond bearing, by deserting them when least expected.

Sunbeams will soon smile through
Why don't you knock it off with them negative waves? Why don't you dig how beautiful it is out here? Why don't you say something righteous and hopeful for a change?
The Bear's Current Missions:
The Bear is so crap at poker that he has now retired.
Grumpyometer: 1
Scale key 1 - icy 2 - cool 3 - chilled 4 - normal 5- irritable 10 - extremely grumpy do not approach. Sometimes HC - hors categorie - so steep a climb (in Le Tour de France) it can't be classified, so grumpy a bear he can't be classified.
The Bear Creed:
The Bear has so many strengths that amaze me and no weaknesses. He can cause trouble and eat astonishing amounts and be amazingly grumpy. If he smiles then you should be screaming. If he sings you should feel like crying. He eats when he's happy. and eats when he is unhappy. In fact he eats all the time. He is never afraid and he does not give a fig about love or whether you love him. There is and never has been anything wrong with him and he never forgets his own worth because he is AAA, TopNotch and the Crown Jewels rolled into one. Don't pass this or anything else, especially my berries or nuts, onto anyone else.
This is a parody of that note found on virtually ever female's page - you must have seen it. If not you can see it below in the board postings.
Bare Bear Rules:

2. drink
3. sleep
4. be grumpy (very important!).
Our motto:
Take what you can, give nothing back.

King's Royal Rifles

The King's Royal Rifle Corps, famous for its scarlet and rifle green uniforms, is the only British regiment to have been raised in the American colonies. It was formed in 1756 as the 62nd (Royal American) Regiment largely from American colonists and fought with distinction along the Ohio river in the French and Indian Wars. In 1759, at Quebec, it won from General Wolfe the motto `Celer et Audax` (Swift and Bold). After the War of Independence, the regiment moved to the West Indies and Canada, but retained the Royal American title until 1824. In World War 1, the regiment was expanded to 22 battalions and saw much action on the Western front. Over 12,000 soldiers of the regiment were killed while eight members won the Victoria Cross and over 2,000 further decorations were awarded. Not surprisingly, the regiment retains close connections with the United States, particularly Maryland, Pennsylvania and Virginia. Before the American entry into World War II, 18 American citizens volunteered to return to the old colours and were commissioned as officers. In 1966, the regiment was almalgamated into the Royal Green Jackets which has recently been amalgamated into The Rifles. The regiment was the first to be equipped with the rifle, hence its name, and Victoria Crosses, the highest award for gallantry, have been presented to 24 of its members during its history. (Factual note, the Regiment has no colours as riflemen were not required to rally to the colours. Instead battle honours are recorded on the cap badge as illustrated. At the time of the Great war, the regiment had more battle honours than any other Life Infantry regiment.)
Riflemen 35692 and 5508.

The Bonnie Blue Flag (North Carolina Brigade)
We are a band of brothers and native to the soil
Fighting for our Liberty, With treasure, blood and toil
And when our rights were threatened, the cry rose near and far
Hurrah for the Bonnie Blue Flag that bears a single star!
Chorus:
Hurrah! Hurrah!
For Southern rights, hurrah!
Hurrah for the Bonnie Blue Flag that bears a single star.

"**** this ****"
de Havilland Mosquito
Remarkable aircraft, "The Wooden Wonder", made of plywood by furniture manufacturers! De Havilland designed the aircarft to have such a thrust/weight ratio that it could literally outrun enemy fighters and had no need for defensive armament in its bombing and reconnaissance roles. Reichsmarschall Göring "when I see the Mosquito I turn green and yellow with envy"

Photo is from the film 633 Squadron - good music & flying - dodgy acting, miscasting and script.
There are none flying today. But, there are plenty of merlin engines and it is quite possible that a flying replica could still be created. Wouldn't that be great!
