I'm a 23 year old computer science major and I've been playing poker for about a year now. I think I'm pretty decent but I really need to work on being able to fold good hands when I think I'm beat because usually I'm right but end up paying to know for sure. I've made about $1000 or so (haven't kept good track) playing in home games with people from work. The crowning achievement on my poker resume right now is that I was the champion of the first annual Kitty Hawk softball fund raiser tournament. Sure it was only a $50 buy-in and there were only 18 people in it but it was my first live tournament and I was able to apply all the patience and skill I had honed online to win it and take home the $250 first place prize. Too bad they didn't have some kind of bracelet. I've been playing for play money and in freerolls online to see if I might be ready to invest some real cash but I still think I need to wait until I play well enough in a freeroll to make it into the money. So far I've finished in 32nd and 31st in two 2700 person freerolls that paid out the top 27... I have a blog written about the one and the other... well I just played dumb at the end when I probably could have folded into the money.
Update 7/26/08: I've actually managed to cash in 3 freerolls since the last time I updated my profile. Between those 3 wins I earned $9 with $3 from an 8th place cash in HORSE and $2 and $4 from 18th and 7th place finishes in Hold'em. I've been able to build that up to a little over $28 now between cash games and tournaments. Hopefully I'll be able to keep building it and actually be able to make some sort of living off online poker. If you want an update on how my bankroll is coming, just shoot me a message. I'll try to update it every month or so in my profile.
Update 8/23/08: Bankroll on Full Tilt is up to a little over $70 now. Guess I should have started playing some of the low stake SNG games a while ago, almost tripled what I had in less than a month.
Update 8/26/08: HUGE boost for my bankroll. Decided to try out the $3 + $0.30 90 player KO tourney and I ended up winning it picking up $2.50 in KO bounties in addition to $72 for winning. That jumped my bankroll up to over $141 now. w00t!
