Treat it as a final table in a larger tourney, expect all-ins right away. So be prepared to go all-in or fold for the first few hands.

I think sitngos are a good way to build a BR but at times can become such a freaking grind...I know its tempting to go right into cash games but resist until you get more money from the sitngos.
My approach to sitngos are to be patient when the blinds are low, no sense in gambling for small pots...and keep a tight-aggressive approach to the table. Just look at it as making a final table and play solid. Most of the times you can play for small pots while the others get it in and gamble...that way you can wait for good hands and at the same time let the others eliminate themselves to get closer to the money. Now...remember you must wait to pick spots and be sure not to get blinded off to where your biting your shorts hoping that someone gets felted before you do before the bubble. Just play some tight-aggressive poker and im sure you'll profit more in the long run. But...if you choose to gamble theres the 300 chip single table sitngo...there quite crazy and there turbos as well...haha. I play them when Im feeling saucy. lol, take care out there & make that $$$. |

I am mostly a MTT player but I have to admit that the payout structure for SNGs is nice in comparison. For example, last night I played in a 2.22 rebuy tournament on PS. There were a total of 1151 players and 180 got paid or about 16% got paid. With an 18 man SNG 4 get paid or 22%. I also like the fact that for a good to decent TAG style player the variance for sit and goes is virtually non existent when compared to MTT's.
The only real advice that I can give for SNGs is: Mostly stick to a TAG playing style with a little bit of LAG thrown in(in position) and you should maintain a good to decent cash rate. Another important thing to study is ICM but that is really only useful for when you get down to 5 or less players. |
