Personally I don't do trash talking, but it can be an effective strategy to get people off their games. The best advice that can be given is to ignore it and use it to your advantage. If someone acuses you of making a bad play and calling you a donkey and what not, they're going to want to get involved in pots with you more than they should. Use that to your advantage to take the rest of their chips and move up the tournament ladder.
I was playing in a freeroll on FT and attempted to steal the blinds from the button with 39os but the small blind called... When the flop came 972 rainbow the SB bet the min so I called. The turn was a 3 and the SB bet the min again so I called. K on the river and AGAIN the SB bet the min so I made a raise of 2/3rds the pot and the SB went all in so I called only to see the pocket As of the SB. After that, the player insulted me and let everyone at the table know what a huge donk I was. It even got to the point where he/she got 3 friends to come watch the table and encourage people to call my bets and bust me since I was a complete donk. I used this to my advantage and had a lot of my big hands paid off. Eventually this person busted (not by me unfortunately) before the money and I went on to cash earning $4.
Moral of the story is don't let anyone get to you. Even if you did make a horrible play or get extremely lucky just move on and focus on the next hand. If that player ends up going on tilt, take advantage of it and bust them out of the tournament.
