In tournaments, you enter to WIN. Why would you change this methodology halfway through the tournament knowing that you will barely double your money just to cash?

You have to look at the total investment. If you are playing within your bankroll limits, the tournaments should NEVER be about just making the money.

WELL PUT! The fact that the Original poster is even asking this question makes me think he should seriously relook his game. NEVER PLAY TO CASH PLAY TO WIN. This is a prime example of someone who either needs the cash or has no bankroll. Your playing this tournament for 3+ hours only to fold to the cash? Dude come on, I just find it hard to actually know that there are people out there who play this bad, im sorry but thats my honest opinion. I'm trying to think of a reason where you could possibly even defend folding here but there is nothing. Played it about as bad as you could possibly play it.

Are you an idiot? Did you read the full thread? Did you see CPOner, one of the most knowledgable posters on this forum, response. Youre in the Main Event at WSOP. Youre in for 10K. Youre close to the bubble. You know if you play tight you make the money and double your 10K. You dont walk out with 8 million but you guarantee 10k without busting out and going home minus 10K. This is the question. Not some self masturbating premise. Yah play for the Win. Good to talk but what about in practical play. I play this bad then you should wish me on your table. As far as my initial investment I am 800% profit. I just propose this question for serious poker players.

Oh here is something a pro doesnt make a habit of doing. They dont go around saying "NEVER!"

First off serious poker players? Please buddy, you don't know me or my stats. Second off who the F plays to cash? You think pro's grind there way into the money and would play that hand the same way you did shortstacked? If 10k is that important to someone where they will grind into the money then they shouldn't be playing a 10k event PLAIN AND SIMPLE. You don't play to cash and your whole way of thinking is wrong. Any tournament I play I make sure Im properly bankrolled for for this reason only, I'm not going to lay down AK on the bubble out of fear of not cashing and no other pro would either, hell even an amateur knows better than this. Not to mention in a 10k event it would be an even easier call because majority of pros know bubble play and would obviously take advantage if it, But I guess my opinion doesn't matter...I guess cashing in 3 events at the wsop and having won 40k+ in 2008 means nothing and my opinion isn't as qualified as CPoner. Im done with this thread and yes I do hope I see you at my table. Keep folding to the cash buddy. Your what I like to call dead money.

What is this a peeing contest. Ok I make 250K in my own profession. SO what. I would never put down some one in my profession for asking a question. I did it to get some info on a particular point. For my edification. Your first post was to put me down. I am learning. Thats why Im on this forum. Youre done? THank you.

I am done, last lesson don't play poker if you aren't playing to win. Also your playing 4.40 180 man turbos and you claim you make 250k a year? Right. Buy a book or join a training site....you need it. Also you take things the wrong way, I stated my opinion and I' not going to lie and say something I don't think. When I first played in the WSOP. I won it on a satellite. I busted out the first hour. I had high pair and on fourth street I caught my second pair. I thought I had the best hand. Since that year they didnt give you too many chips, they have sinced double the stacks, I got most of my chips in and got busted on the river by a set. I thought I do need to read more books and study up and get to a training site and get on a forum to learn more about the intricacies of the game. I also had to learn about myself. What were my weaknesses.
This week on Poker after Dark Eli Elezra went all in on the first hand with Big Slick and Howard Lederer answered with AA. Needless to say Eli got knocked out. Good for him they let him bye back in on some funky rule. Ive experienced a lot of these kinds of things myself and will admit my timidity after those happenings. You know AA getting cracked by 7/8o etc. I wanted to discuss that productively.
I been playing poker about 5 hours a day trying to learn the game. That is why I play small. Not sure of what I am doing all the time. On another episode of PAD Jamie Gold called a hand he knew he couldnt win with. He started berating himself saying " I knew I was beat and I called anyway". So its not like Im alone when I make mistakes. Nor do I think Im alone when I am thankful to make it in the money when I had weeks of dead cards or bad streaks.
I might have taken things wrong. But I already said my friends said I played like an "old lady". I had already been berated now I wanted to pursue it further. If you say you are an experienced player making it in the money 3 times in the WSOP and making 40K I believe you. WHy wouldnt you believe me? I can tell you I do have a large BR cause I do make that income. But I am not ready to risk it. I have many questions about the game and would like to ask it on a FORUM without feeling like a Donk. I will be at the WSOP again this year. I have put in many hours playing MTT's. Hopefully I can do better with the info I receive from the books, videos, and responses from the forum. Good Luck.
