Default No Limit Shorthanded

Hello. I've been playing poker for a while now but mostly fullhanded. Now I'm I'm going to try some shorthaned(6 Max at pokerstars. NL100/NL50) for a while but I have some problems with knowing what hands I should play. For example, suited connectors should lose a lot of value in i shorthanded game, so when should I play them, and should I raise or just call preflop with them?

The same goes with low pocket pairs, when and how should I play them?

And one last thing. 2 high cards like AQ, Aj, KQ and other hands like that. how should I generally play them. I guess I mostly raise with them as they gain lots of value in a shorthanded game, but if someone raises before me and I'm on the button with KJ/KQ for example. what should I generally do there? what hands should I generally raise/call with in that example? so what hands do you play in a shorthanded game?

/Andreas

Personally I do not play differently on a 6-person table. When we are down to 4 or less, I play Ax, Kx suited and hands like QJ, KJ, etc, since chances are any ace or king is good.

The advantage of playing shorthanded is that there are less players to observe, so you can usually get a better idea of their styles. Use that information: if they are tight, steal. If the're loose, wait to bust them with a monster. I found that on 9 player tables it is much more work to keep track of everybody, so IMO that's where the real advantage of shortstacked tables lies.

You can value your hands a lot more shorthanded. Its my favorite way to play. Things go by a lot quicker and like the above person said its easier to watch your oppenents. Some people play really aggressive because its shorthanded. So if someone raises you early and you know he is trying to play too many hands then you can start playing your KQ's and so on.

I look at it as a full-ring game, but 3 players have already folded. I think that's a good place to start.

Yes, suited connectors/small pairs do decrease in value somewhat from early position, but I think you can raise/be aggressive with them in the cutoff/button.

i think your wrong about small pairs losing value in a shorthanded game, it actually seems as if the opposite is true. if there are less people in the game the odds of getting a pair are less so therefore the odds of someone having a larger pair are less.

also, i think it helps to be a little more aggressive than normal in a shorthanded situation, but most of the way you go about playing will be decided upon your own style and the way your opponents are playing as well.
