Online poker names

Had an interesting end to an overall good day today.

The good part was that I placed 9th in the cardschat freeroll and then 3rd in the RB freeroll...so a pretty good ROI day for sure.

So I was playing a few 1.25 SNG's, 9 handed, when one guy commented about my screen name I use. Went on to call me self-absorbed, pretentious and so on. Gotta say in the few months i've been playing its the most negative thing i've heard...most people like it.

Considering you only get one chance to create your screen name and can't change it ever after...i think its a pretty important thing to put some effort into.

Personally..if people don't like my name...i'm totally fine with that. If they are focusing more on my name then my game, that works to my advantage. If they are thinking i'm playing them when I actually have a monster hand, i'm cool with that too. If I happen to show my cards after they fold on the river and they see I have absolute garbage...and it puts them on tilt after they see my name again...even better. Just to grease the wheels a little bit I might even say "played you"...or.."don't you wish you folded that hand now?"

Guess my point is that poker is about alot more then just cards on a table or a computer screen. If I can use something that can distract a person from making optimal plays...i'll do it. Of course sometimes i'll get played...I accept that as a part of the game...but you gotta admit it stings a lot more when I playedyou,lol

I receive a certain amount of grief for for mine (Powerman1983) too. It comes from The Kinks song of the same name (it's a tongue-in-cheek reference to the lyrics).

Quite frankly, people will find any reason to not like you at the table. It's really not important. You're not running for Mayor of The Poker Site.

You should try mine on for size. I'm british by descent, Canadian since 1981. A friend of mine who was part german came up with my screen name back in the days of the BBS's. No internet to play on. Originally named Totenbach Christ, I've cut it short to Totenbach over the last few years. Well, it does cut out alot of religious debates. However, I'll happily be playing poker when someone tries to converse to me in german at the table...lol

A lot of people pick usernames that try to give themselves a certain image, much like yours. I could care less what your name is, it isn't going to have any effect on how I play against you. I guess some people can't separate the two and then they get all pissy like that guy did.

I just use a name that I can remember. If you play against any decent poker player, they aren't going to be intimidated by your screen name... honestly.

i get alot of fat jokes with mine lol i have used Brandon2fat as a screen name for everything since i was in middle school about 10 yrs ago lol. funny thing is... im not even fat.
