We all know that pokersites "help out" from time to time.

People who think poker is rigged just suck at poker. I consistently run 15% ROI in heads up Sngs which means I win about 60% of my games... Its not cause im an employee of the site or that its rigged in my favor...

...not like it has anything to do with me playing thousands of games and studying peoples tendencies for hours... no... it must be that im cheating somehow... yeah... thats it...

Say that you manage to get your money into the middle 3 times during the early to middle stages of a poker tournament as a significant favorite. Once with an over-pair and twice while dominating a smaller ace with an Ace-King. You are more likely to be out than to have a big chip stack according to the math.

Hand 1: KK vs JJ – You win 80% of the time.
Hand 2: AK vs A9 – You win 70% of the time (70% of 80% = 56% Still In Tournament)
Hand 3: AK vs A6 – You win 70% of the time (70% of 56% = 39% Still In Tournament)

Even though you got your money in as a big favorite all 3 times you will be busted more than 60% of the time

Bottom line is that poker has a high variance even if you are getting your money in way ahead.

When I won the tournament I was in, I was chip leader about five minutes after the first break. Lost two hands that lost the lead, but those where my own foolish mistakes. Came right back and got K's full Q's and gained the lead again and never looked back. So this full stack fixation, I don't believe in it.

Do I believe that it is possible to be playing in a rigged game? Of course, ever been to a live game? Played in one that three best friends played in. There was obvious collusion going on. I still beat the three of them. Sometimes it just takes a good move or two to stay alive. Play the game, watch what the others do. It comes out sooner or later.

Seriously. Those of you who look at a big stack calling a small stack's all-in, and then winning with say, KQ against A5, and you immediately say OMG RIGGED. Do you even know the percentages on that? Do you even realize that most of the time a bigstack calls a shortstack all-in with a hand like that they're TRYING to get lucky - which means most of the time they're behind preflop (if only slightly) - which means that whenever they win it's a "suckout"? Learn math, and learn statistics.

Also, the difference between empirical and anecdotal evidence.

"omg I lost with aces 3 times in a row" /= statistical impossibility.
