No. Stick to Omaha or Hold em Quizes till you can get some of those correct, before you try and tell someone how to play stud. There is no wrong answer there but a raise would be a solid play unless you are at an overagressive table, which isnt very likely with those antes in a stud game, even so you have got to like your hand. Also, it from my recollection there werent many of your fourthstreet cards taking away from you as I dont recall you saying there were hearts, jacks or sevens out so you definately love your chances here.there, as with stud you are usually playing smarter players that like odds. So when they know that you see an Ace or King out there it gives them cause to think, also if you get reraised you definately know where your at, and you really dont mind that reraise its actually a hand you want to get some action early.

I have played stud since I was a youngster which was longer ago than I like to admit. I also know how quickly what looks like a good hand can go bad. I am going to slow play this hand and see what comes up. There will be time to start building the pot if things go my way. Just my amateur opinion.

I agree with the raise but I know calling is the correct manuever think about it you already have one heart out on the table and your raising into it? not a good idea what if the K has two hole hearts as well? hell just reraise and all of a sudden your in a capped pot with not chance to make the best hand barring a freak 3 of a kind or two pair.and your opponent missing his flush.

I would say given the situation that calling the bring-in early is probably the worst option. Whether to play this hand or not really depends a lot on how you feel about your abilities relative to the players sitting behind you. If you're not really confident, you're better off folding here. If you're going to play, put in a raise and at least let folks know you're serious about the hand (and if you're not serious about the hand in stud...just fold it up front and save all those bets!).
If you call the bring in, what are you going to do when one of those later big cards makes it 15? You're calling anyway, given the pot odds and the lack of cards you need showing. By betting out in the face of big cards still to act, your opponents must also consider that you've got a big pair in the hole. Most opponents will be hesitant to call your bet without actually having a pair, so if you get called you have a better idea where you stand. If you call the bring-in and get called, you DON'T have any idea what your opponent really has--so you really need to improve right away or your opponent is likely to simply bet you off the hand later. By raising, you take charge of the situation, and your opponent may well be more hesitant to come after you. I don't claim to be an expert player by any means, but I think passive play in stud is potentially MUCH more disastrous to your bankroll than it is in hold'em (in limit games, I mean), simply because you have 5 rounds of betting instead of 4. That's a 20% increase in betting rounds per hand. Position isn't fixed in stud like it is in hold'em, so just because you're in early position on the first round doesn't mean you'll be out of position the whole hand. So you can be a little more speculative from early than you would in hold'em (but don't carry this idea to extremes!). However, ultimately, the tight-aggressive players generally end up with the money. So be selective about the hands you play, but when you do play a hand, play it strongly! |

Raising will induce a bet on the 4th street. If I raised preflop and I checked the 4th, anyway the opponent will raise and I'll have to fold until I get a heart / 7 / J.
By calling, if I check on the 4th there is no agression ongoing and I will probably get 5th for free and maybe pick up a nice draw. I'm not an expert in stud but that's my opinion ![]() |
