Default Sometimes, Omaha is strange

This is what happened to me a couple of minutes ago at a No-Limit Omaha freeroll at pokerstars: had a not so great starting hand with 3QQQ, but the flop brought the last queen. V799 hit nothing with the flop, just had a chance for a straight.
Turn brought the third 9, but my tripple queens were still better. River was another 9 that turned my hand into a full house, so I went all in and lost to his four-of-a-kind...

Hi!
Here is another strange Omaha hand from a Pokerstars Freeroll. Had that hand today. This was the first (and last) hand for me in that tournament.

tysk12 raised and I thought that Ah Jh 3h 5h was a decent enough hand to go all-in pre-flop.
tysk12 showed a decent hand with 9h Kh 7c Js

and now began the rollercoaster-ride:
the flop turned his hand into a three of a kind, Kings so he was ahead.
The turn brought a 10, turning my hand into a straight 10 to Ace. I was ahead at that point.
With an Ace, we would have had a split-pot, with one of the two remaining jacks or with a 7 or a 9, he would have had a Full House, but...

The river gave him the final King for a four of a kind... My first reaction was "fishy", but on second thought, I realized that there were a number of outs for him.
Nevertheless, this was a rollercoaster ride and it leaves a bitter taste...

Don't play Omaha hands with 3 of the same cards or 4 cards of the same suit.

If you have 3 of the same card in your hand you diminish your chances of getting one more on the flop.

If you have 4 of the same suits it means there's only 9 left in the whole deck.

that's not really a good enough hand to go all in with. In Omaha you HAVE to use exactly 2 of your 4 hole cards. any of the 2 card combinations from those 4 aren't worthy of an all in raise. It'd be like going all in in holdem with AJ of a suited A.

neither of your hands were any good for a preflop all in, you were kinda coinflipping with him tbh.

3 of a kind is MURDER on an omaha hand.

Omaha is not a game of one pair (as hold'em is).

2 pair is probably no good eitehr.

In the fishy freeroll events you'll need a straight, flush, or full house MOST Of the time. Yeah. MOST

These idiots will call any bet with anything.

none of them understand that aces in the hole is a pretty worthless hand too. Of course you raise aces, its aces!

You want a set, or two pair, at the WORST .

2 of a kind in your hand leaves you only a ten percent chance of making a set, and wrecks a lot of your other potentials...like 3 of a kind leaves 1 other card...which means you can ONLY be going for 1 flush, or straight.

Powerful drawing hands in omaha are 4 running cards (2345, 6789) double suited. Now if the flop comes well they can have an EASY monster draw.

Big pairs are like suited connectors in hold'em. They're GREAT, but only on the right flop. A set is only worth a little since most straights will miraculously be out. yeah...even if the only straight is a 79, or a 26. SOMEBODY in that fishy stupid crowd is holding it.

3 of a kind leaves you holding a dead card. A card youo'll NEVER use. Pick one of the 2 unsuited ones and try and think of a combo you'll make with it you can't already make with another.

So...your hand is crippled, and worse yet, your chance of hitting on the flop is cut in HALF. You're playing a hand that can really only make a set, and you're only half as likely to land that set!

Omaha (High) is a game of big nasty hands that would be a monster in any other poker game. Play accordingly. 1 pair is like holding bottom pair in any other game... sure ...it MIGHT win but the vast majority of the tiem it's going to be second best (or worse).

If youo're in a multiway pot you're going to fold the moment that third flush card comes cause yeah, it was out, and it is beating you.

The best omaha hands are like ....AAKK, and AAJT in 2 suits.

The best omaha low hand is are AA23 (again 2 suits)

In general you need some powerful connectedness to stick around without at least 1 possible flush in your hand (7-T+ off suit)

Watch for double-sooted, those are fun, watch out for double paired (especially if you make at least one flush) but again you're throwing them out and FAST when you miss. Don't stick around with top pair unless you're looking at a potent draw (if he has bottom two and you KNOW this then top pair has a crazy number of outs, but at the same time if any of those outs make a straight/flush possible, you should probably discount them.

Oh, and avoid omaha freerolls. THEY"RE SHIT. REALLLLLLLLY bad. Take any hold'em freeroll, then throw your brain in a blender. Its that much worse.

So many of hte freerollers are hold'em players who are comPLETELY clueless as to the value of their own hand. Your 2 pair is NOT going to hold up in a 6 handed pot, even tho you might have the best hand thru the turn.

Once again. AAKK is a wonderful hand, played for SET value (and flush/straight if we're lucky).

If the board comes XJT then we're looking at probably 8 outs. 4 queens give us the nut straight. 2 aces and 2 kings give us top set which MAY be good enough.

If the flop comes AA2. yeah four of a kind still holds up in omaha (only monster that does), go for broke buddy.

read the original hand, he was BB and checked in to the flop. seems like he knows its not a good hand to go in with, was just unfortunate that he was BB.

Skyy captain, I couldn't have said it better myself. I think Omaha is the worst played game ever, especially in freerolls. People don't understand the game. They raise on anything. I rarely ever raise in this game, because every hand is raised to the maximum on every card.

A good way to approach to this game is to look at the hand and figure out what hands are possible, then assume somebody out there has that hand. More often than not they do. If a four of a kind is possible and you have aces full, you'll get cracked about 50% of the time.
