Exploring The Site |
-
I'm new! What's the best way to learn more about exploring the site?Good news! You're already on the right track just by reading the FAQ.... but thanks to A55A55IN, there is now a great blog that should explain everything you need to know. You can find it by clicking this link.
Prorails |
-
What if I want to complain about a Prorail? If you have a problem with a Prorail that you can't solve with him or her, then by all means discuss it with another Prorail, or with RailJoe, who'll try to look it up and make sure that all parties are happy. Remember, Prorails are ordinary humans, too, and they can make mistakes and say things that come across in other ways than intended, just like any person can.
-
How do I become a Prorail?Prorails are chosen by RailJoe, the administrator of the site, based on site activity and proven willingness to help out other members. He considers all applications that he gets, and decides when to recruit new Prorails.
-
What is a Prorail?A Prorail is a member that has been designated the task of helping other members and make sure that our rules are enforced. The Prorails basically have six tasks: - To help members in need. - To moderate blogs, chat and forums, as well as remove offensive videos and images. - To answer questions. - To administrate the site and make sure it's running properly. - To solve disputes between members and mediate. - To warn and ban members, in the rare cases where this is needed.
Freerolls and passwords |
-
Who provides for the prize pools for the freerolls? We never discuss the economy behind the site... it is strictly a business matter. It's not Stars and FTP that pay for the tours, though, we do ourselves.
-
Where can I find the schedule for the freerolls? On the frontpage is a link to the schedule, or you can simply click here. In general, all games are at 2pm and 9pm EST and are considered ranked - the only exception is on Sunday when the $10 buy-in game will be played at 4pm EST. Green R symbol means it's a ranking game and a Orange B symbol means it's a real money buy in game. Please remember that the Bodog tournaments are for non-Canadian members and that the Unibet tournaments are for Canadians only.
-
Can I share the passwords with my friend? No, please don't! Our freerolls are for our members only, and we don't want the passwords spread to friends, in chats or on other sites. If you want your friends to play in our tournaments, refer them to the site and make them sign up for their own accounts. Shortly, they'll be getting passwords as well.
-
Help! I accidentally deleted my password! If this happens, please send a request to an online prorail and they can have the system resend it to you if you had previously qualified to receive them. If you don't get an immediate reply, you can also try the chat room to see if a prorail is there that can help you.
-
What are the exact requirements for getting passwords? While we don't want to believe anything bad about our users, we do know that telling the exact requirements would cause some people to fulfill them and never do anything again, so we don't tell how the formula works. It honestly really doesn't take much though!
-
Where do I find my passwords?Once you're eligible to receive passwords - it really doesn't take much! - you'll start getting private messages from our bot called RailSupport. Look in your message inbox, there's a link to it in the upper right corner. The passwords are not sent out through e-mail, we use our own internal messaging system instead.
-
How do I get passwords for other sites' freerolls? As we don't want to spread our passwords on other sites, we understand that other sites don't want their passwords spread here either. Therefore, we have a zero tolerance policy against password sharing, no matter what tournament it is for.
-
How do I get passwords for Railbirds.com freerolls? In order to get passwords to our Railbirds.com freerolls on Poker Stars and Full Tilt Poker, you have to be a bit active. Post some blog entries, post in the forums, make friends and upload content - it will all count towards your getting passwords. It really doesn't take much - just keep at it and you'll be receiving them in no time!
My account |
-
How do I add members to my friends list?Click on the orange button on the right hand of the screen labled "Search railbirds". Enter the member's name and click "Search". Once you find their name, click on "Request Friendship".
-
How can I change the information in my profile?Go to your profile page through the orange link in the upper right corner that says "My page". Once there, you can click the "Edit this page" button and edit your heart away. Don't forget to save any changes made.
-
How do I terminate my account? If, for whatever reason, you decide that you don't want to be a member of Railbirds.com anymore, send a message to one of our ProRails, and they will deactivate your account for you.
-
I accidentally misspelt a screen name for a poker site in my profileDon't worry, we can change it. Send RailJoe, HHTB or RichsGirl187 a message and they'll fix it for you. Please mention the site, what you accidentally entered and what you'd like there instead.
Status |
-
How do I find out how close I am to the next rank?Due to abuse in the past, the points system to determine your site rank is kept secret. However, there may be a visual scale added in the future to give you an idea.
-
What are the different Railbirds ranks?Railbirds are divided in to four categories: Newbie, Beginner, Expert and Prorail. All Railbirds have the same right to use and view all content at Railbirds.com.
Prorailship has got nothing to do with status or who you happen to know. And while RailJoe prefers picking experts as prorails, what he really wants is people who he feels have a number of qualities needed, namely: 1. Patience 2. Reason 3. Willingness to help 4. Ability to work in a team 5. Understanding of how people work Basically, if someone sends an application, if RailJoe thinks that someone is a good candidate, or if another prorail suggests somebody, RailJoe will do a background check to see if he can find the qualities mentioned above in said person.IconCategoryHow to become

Site rules and regulations |
-
Are we allowed to post contest blogs offering to win prizes? Please note though that a prorail may decide that something is or is not allowed regardless of what the current rules say at any time (in which case we will of course change them later). No warnings or bans will be given out to somebody who didn't have a chance of knowing that they were breaking the rules, unless they ignore the ruling of the prorails. What I'm trying to say is that you don't have to worry about us being angry with you, but we still won't allow the contests due to the abuse of trying to "buy" railbird status.
-
Are we allowed to discuss or post links to affilaite or referral sites? No. There is a big risk that people get scammed when affiliate/refferal sites are involved and we'd rather not have those kinds of problems at Railbirds whatsoever. This includes sites that offer "free" bankrolls (always read the fine print). Some of these sites are also direct competitors of railbirds.com and as such we do not wish to give them free advertising.
-
Are we allowed to discuss or post links to rakeback sites? No. There is a big risk that people get scammed when rakeback is involved and we'd rather not have those kinds of problems at Railbirds whatsoever. Some of these sites are also direct competitors of railbirds.com and as such we do not wish to give them free advertising.
-
What happens when my account gets banned? If it was your second offense, you will receive a temporary banning that will last any where from 1 to 10 days. If it is your 3rd offense, your account will be permanently banned and you will no longer be able to participate in railbird.com events. If your account is banned, (temp or perm) you will also forfeit your right to play in any special tournaments that you may have qualified. This includes the monthly top 100, the monthly quiz and referral promotion tournaments. Banned members will lose ALL of their accumulated ranking points - regardless if it's temporary or permanent.
-
Can I ask for staking, loans or trading of funds on Railbirds.com?No! Doing so will result in you getting warned or worse. The risk of somebody getting scammed is simply too big. If any members start harassing you for money via private messages, blogs or the chat room, please report it to a pro-rail immediately.
-
What kind of guidelines should I use when posting a blog, on the forums or chatting?Although we prefer that you limit blogs to the subject of poker, there are no actual restrictions the the subjects you would like to discuss. However, please remember to follow some simple rules: You may use Railbirds only to post content and send communications that are lawful, proper and appropriate and you shall not do any of the following on or through Railbirds: - defame, abuse, harass, stalk, threaten or otherwise infringe the legal rights (such as rights of privacy or intellectual property rights where applicable) of others - publish, post, distribute or disseminate any material which is obscene, indecent, hateful, racially or ethnically objectionable, discriminatory or unlawful - advertise or offer to sell any goods or services, or conduct or forward surveys, contests, or chain letters - upload files that contain images, audio or video recordings, software or other material protected by intellectual property laws (or by rights of confidentiality or privacy of publicity, where applicable) unless you own or control the rights thereto or have received all necessary consents - upload files that contain viruses, corrupted files, or any other similar software or programs that may damage the operation of our or another's computer - upload files which contain an active hypertext link to another web site - delete any author attributions, legal notices or proprietary designations or labels in any file that is uploaded - falsify the origin or source of software or other material contained in a file that is uploaded - download, share or distribute any file that you know, or reasonably should know, cannot be legally used in such manner - encourage others to put themselves at risk of harm or injury, or to commit a criminal offence or - act in a manner which affects other users' normal use of Railbirds. Failure to abide by these rules may lead to anything ranging from a personal warning to a permanent banning from the site.
-
Are there any rules for this site? There certainly are! Please read the Terms of use for all of the details.
Our rankings system |
-
What is the difference between the ranking tournaments on FTP/PS and Bodog/Unibet?For Full Tilt and Pokerstars, there are 2 different rankings: One for Freerolls and one for Buyins - each which their own prizes.
For Bodog, there is only one ranking and only non canadian's can play in these games... it doesn't matter if it's a buyin or a freeroll - both styles of games will count towards a monthly ranking.
For Unibet, there is only one ranking and only canadian's can play in these games... it doesn't matter if it's a buyin or a freeroll - both styles of games will count towards a monthly ranking.
The top 15 monthly players from Unibet rankings and the top 85 monthly players from Bodog will be able to compete in a monthly $500 bonus freeroll. All other prizes are for for the Full Tilt and Pokerstars rankings only. -
How do I score points for the ranked freerolls?Points are rewarded to the top 15%. The member in 1st place will receive an amount of points equal to the total amount of participants. 2nd place will receive 97% of the total points that 1st place got, 3rd will receive 97% of the 2nd place total, and so on. The actual formula is as follows: Total points = N * 0.97 ^ (X - 1) or 0.97 to the power of (X - 1) where, N = total number of participants X = your placing For example, if you were to place 55th in a tournament with 737 players, you would receive 737 times (0.97 to the power of 54) = 142.28 points.
Current promotions |
-
I heard something about doubled prize money...Unfortunately, due to the changes in Poker Stars Avatar policies, we've had to discontinue our "double winnings for a railbird avatar" promotion. There is the possibility that we may continue it in the future with new avatars but that has not been determined yet. Keep an eye out for Infobird posts for the latest details concerning this promotion.
-
What is the daily quiz?We run a poker-related question every day which all members at the site can answer. Then, five winners who chose the correct answer are picked at random, and at the end of each month, all daily winners get to play a $500 freeroll, held the second Sunday of the following month.
-
When will the monthly top 100 freerolls be played? The monthly top 100 freeroll will always be held on the third Sunday of every month. If you have qualified for this freeroll, you will receive a pm with all of the details a few days before the tournament happens.
-
When will the monthly $250 quiz freerolls be played? The monthly $250 quiz freeroll will always be held on the second Sunday of every month. If you have qualified for this freeroll, you will receive a pm with all of the details a few days before the tournament happens.
-
What are the prizes for our ranked freerolls? The prizes change monthly, but will always be available here. The grand prize for 2007 is an entry into the 2008 WSOP main event, and the 100 top ranked players at the end of the year will get to play a $10,000 freeroll.

Are there any restrictions to using music players?Unfortunately, a potential security problem was discovered and Technical Support is now taking measures to remove script/object/iframe/embed tags from the site. As a result of this, music players and other types of custom backgrounds will no longer work. We regret having to take away this ability but due to security concerns, we have no other option.

-

Help! I've got my password for the tournament but I can't find it on the poker site. This is a common problem when railbirds.com hosts a tournament that is not No Limit. First and fore most, check our schedule (here) to see what format the game is in. Then check to make sure that your filters on the poker site for that game type are turned off. If you still can't locate it, please read this forum thread. It has step by step instructions with screen shots on how to locate a railbird tournament.

Help! I can't seem to read any of my private messages! This is a common problem but thankfully there is a quick fix for most cases. If you clear out your internet cache through your browser tools, it should solve the issue.
-
Help! I seem to be getting the passwords sent to me after the games have already started/completed!This is due to your railbird time not being set correctly. Please make sure that your proper time zone is entered and it should solve the problem. If you look on the front page underneath the large banner ad at the top on the left hand side, you should see "My railbird time:" next to a drop-down menu box - this is where you can select your time zone. Please remeber to allow cookies on railbirds.com so that it can save your settings.

Bounties |
-
How can I place a bounty on myself in a railbird tournament? Please be aware of the following changes to the way bounties will be handled. We are a thriving community and are always changing to improve how things are done on site. Please welcome the addition of a bounty officer. Astrogini will be handling the Bounties for the site and the following is a brief outline of how this will work. As usual good luck to you all on and off felt.
1.) All persons wishing to place a bounty will contact the officer only. This will prevent multiple blogs showing up on the front page and also people signing up for bounties that have already past. Should you wish to post a bounty on someone please follow the direction in AstroGini's Blog
2.) Only the bounty officer can post a daily blog of bounties. Members will not be able to post any bounty blogs for tournaments. NO signatures are required for Bounties...The winning person is to contact astrogini and let her know whom they have taken the bounty for.
3.) Bounties must be submitted 1 hour prior to game time.....Any past this will be rejected.
4.) Those placing a bounty MUST have played Five ranking games.....Those below that will be refused
5.) Should a person fail to keep up his or her end of the bounty, the officer would not allow them to post again. Please have your Hand History enabled in case we need to verify you indeed knocked out this person.
6.) Only bounties in official railbird tournaments and private tournaments being held for railbirds will be approved.
7.) no persons other then the Officer are permitted to post bounties for railbird tournaments. Any bounty blogs posted will be removed and the person will be directed to the Bounty Officer.
8.) Railbirds doesn't help with scammers in any way, so please govern yourself accordingly.
For more information on how to set up your bounty, please check out the official bounty blog here.
-
Are we allowed to place bounties on another member's head?Certainly - but only if you have permission from that person beforehand! Any bounties placed on another member out of spite is highly unethical and you may be putting your account at risk if you make a habit of this.
