Mike the Mouth #3
2008-07-04

Due to RailJoe screwing up the order of stacked questions, here's the continued Mike Matusow question from two days ago.

You're on the big blind playing "High Stakes Poker" with Daniel Negreanu, Doyle Brunson, and some other famous guys.

Phil Laak raises to $1,700 and you call with QSpades 9Diamonds.

The flop is JDiamonds TDiamonds 4Diamonds, so you get an open-ended straight draw and a flush draw. You have $80,000 in your stack, about the same as Phil, and you decide to bet $4,000. Phil thinks for but a split second before calling.

On the turn comes the 2Spades. You quickly bet $10,000 and Phil calls after thinking a little longer than last time.

The river is the 6Clubs. You have a queen high hand, hardly good enough to win the hand... At the beginning of the pot, you had $80,000. You're down to about $64,000 and there's $32,000 in the pot.

Check-fold (correct)
Give it up. Phil doesn't call twice for fun.

Mike "The Mouth" Matusow chose to go all-in! Phil called after thinking for about a thousandth of a second with his king-high flush, it looked kind of silly... Those of you who understand Mike's thinking, please explain it in the forums.

If you choose to fire off a third barrel, at least choose an amount that looks like you're trying to sell your hand. 15-20k should be enough. A 30k pot bet smells bad, but overbetting the pot downright stinks. There are no hands that fold to 60k but not to 30k.

Mike generously gives us an example of how to bluff $80,000 away in a few minutes.
