I'm curious why you didn't reraise--You were on the button, correct? I think a reraise here would have given you more information. I think you put yourself in a position of deciding whether or not to fold your Q's--I think if you had reraised initially you would have been in control of hand, not the small blind. You'll never know if you made a good laydown, but I think if you had initiated the aggression the outcome would have been different.

I fold that quick. I read AA here, maybe KK but either way, I'm not gonna go in when I'm very likely beat.

I believe that you made the correct decision. From the looks of the blinds it appears late in the tournament and you were in pretty decent position. Use those Queens when you have a chance to play them, not gamble with a preflop all in. To small of a hand to gamble all of your chips with. Wait for a chance to actually play them.

So I promised I'd give my reasoning about it all and I'll try to cover all your questions.

As noted this was deep into the tournament. I was in the top 15 or so chip stack wise, so I wasn't in a desperate position at all.

I called for 1 reason, because dalerjr88111 had raised a few times and damn near beat the flop with his insta all in's and I was hoping for this. I was trying to lay a trap.

I folded because bassplayer I had zero read on, up to this point he had only been at the table for 4 hands and hadn't played. I 100% knew I was ahead, but I didn't figure(especially given fulltilts rep) that risking almost everything at this point was worth it.

As to how I finished, well bebewins was nice enough to blog that:

I think the initial call was wrong. I want to put my opponents to the decision. A raise to 8-9k would have been my play.

nothing invested. if u think he had AA or KK good fold, but y go all in preflop for 26 big blinds when u want a call? A10 AJ or AQ is possible but again y push all in when u dont know waht ur opponants have.

AK is a possibilty, in which ur 50/50, so if u wanna gamble go ahead. but in reality the only hands i could see a push like that with is a mid pocket pair where u just want to win it right there, and in that case u have him crushed. it all depends on how u felt at the time and such.

The biggest problem with "did i play it right?" is that all hands are situational and u cant make a good play or not decsion without having exact knowlege about the game prior to the hand.

No hasitation instant fold.
jluckyj24 May 18, 2008 4:37 pm
Against a raise and then a reraise, I would have folded. Good move.
FlashLighting228 May 18, 2008 4:55 pm

I think it was a good fold...your late in the tourny even though you had him covered he prolly had like AK suited or JJ people tend to push with those late in tourneys...even if you had the best hand ppl tend to suck out....

how did you finish in the tourney?

niccollette May 18, 2008 5:13 pm

i wouldn't have folded either, but maybe you had a really good read on your table.

i think online play is scaring some people because it seems to have a lot of bad beats. i say stick with your queens and if you get unlucky so be it. don't forget it is a knock-out tourney so i presume the big stack is trying to knock out the short stack

i don't know that's how i woulda played

Hard to say .. the only way to play Q/Q and J/J is to try and seesee a flop if there are bigger stacks behind you and with a big push if in late position with only blinds called ... other wise your fold was a great play .. your were at best against A/K ..A/Q and at worst behind against A/A .. K/K IMO
