What is your move and why?

Oct 3, 2007 7:54 am Report Abuse

I was in this situation tonight and was wondering how others would play it...

You’re in the first hour of a freeroll. You have just over 2000 in chips from the starting 1500. There are a few players sitting out, and you’ve only seen a few hands at the current table after having been moved.

In the short time you’ve been there, you do see what you would consider a maniac. He moves all in with his 1300 in chips and it’s folded to you. You look down in the cut off position to see

QdQc

You have both the BB and SB covered, but the button has over 5000 in chips.

What is your move here and why?

Fold?

Call and see what the remaining players do?

Move all in to try and isolate yourself in hopes the button doesn’t call?

Something else?

If you're going to play in this position i would try to isolate and go allin , if you have been playing smart up to now the rest of the table should know you have something and fold even if someone else is silly and stays in you have a great hand and a great chance to triple up , the 700 you would have left is still enough to get back in it if you called and lost on the flop but your chance's of winning are very good against a maniac who shoves in with anthing gl !

I would go all-in to show those behind me I've got the goods. Then, if the maniac calls, then pray, and hope your Ladies hold up.

I would go all in. You have the 3rd best hand in the deck. It is time to gamble.

lol

I agree. Going all in would of been the best move.

I would move in to let people know I have a big hand you don't want another caller here it will make your queens vulnerable.

I disagree. If you act before the 5000 button, you should just call the 1300 . If the Button has a very good hand, the extra 700 if you go all-in will not stop him for calling your raise. In the other hand, that 700 is everything for you if you would lose the current hand.

I agree, all in to isolate. If the big stack on the button has AA, KK, or Ak, he'll call you, but chances are he doesn't.

I was going to say "all-in" but I see that everyone has already beaten me to it.

I was just about to mention that Yappoe88...

700 isn't that much more if he has KJ or AJ (or anything he/ she likes) and think's it worth the call...

It is saving 700 if the flop is scary and you can fight again later if the big stack thinks it's two for almost the price of one.

The ladies do tend to shrink with more people in the mix...
Ric111 Oct 3, 2007 10:08 am
Any hand shrinks with more people in thats why he should isolate here not call and then fold 1300 to a bad flop he is out of position but with a great hand so he has to let them know they stay in the pot at their own risk any smart player will get out of the way if they are stubborn and call anyway , he still stand a great chance to win big , he should not stop playing poker just because it's a tourney , take a stand and go allin or just fold outright don't put 1300 in and let the others in cheap and then just fold your 1300.

two things bother me...lack of information on the players since you got moved and the button. I think you only have two choices, all-in or fold. I dont think I would be willing to risk my whole chip stack at this point...i would fold.
