FINAL What would you do and why?

Sep 26, 2007 6:51 am Report Abuse

Here is what actually happened to me in the hand. It was late and I wanted to play something. So I sat down at a $1.00 9 player Sit and Go (Well done Mcleaver. Lots of callers and chasers). I knew it would be fairly quick and I’m not risking that much money…

Disclaimer: I WAS A TOTAL DONK IN THIS HAND!!

To me, this is exactly how you wouldn’t play it. I allowed too many people to stay in this pot. I had taken some seriously bad beats in hands in the tournament before and wanted to get as many chips in this hand, in this tournament, as I could. GREED partly did me in. Hahaha Opps

The other thing (maybe really the only true one) was the open ended straight flush draw. I wanted it SO BADLY! I was enamored by it. And after analyzing my play once it was over, I can tell by my play that I was probably wasn’t playing my hand like I had a straight, but rather, more like a flush draw…

This is VERY embarrassing, but here it is…

The button is in seat #9

I am a little surprised hardly anyone seemed that concerned about the Straight Flush draw though. I really thought more would have been playing towards that a little bit…

After seeing the hand in it’s entirety (Barring not knowing the buy in)… How do you think you did?

Like yer disclaimer said: U PLAYED LIKE A DONK! hahahaha I was right when i said "HAMMER DOWN" after the flop and get rid of the chasers, thats my 1st instinct cause i dont want to lose with the str8 to begin with, folding wasnt an option then!!!!
scottyburr1 Sep 26, 2007 7:08 am
But on the bright side u played real well 2nite 'cept for the last hand lol....dont sweat it tho my friend ur a good player and u will win more than u'll lose, just learn from yer mistakes and improve yer gm. I know I'm tryin to do better but sometimes the cards just dont fall for me, Oh well, that's poker lmao
Waterpilot Sep 26, 2007 7:12 am

HAHA Well thanks Scott! I thought Donk was about right too... I was a little suprised that those two, not on draws stayed in though...

And thanks for the compliment about tonight. I wasn't getting anything and that large of a bet seemed like AK to me... I was wrong. Haha Lesson learned...

mcleaver Sep 26, 2007 7:16 am

okay thanks this whole thing was killing me i had a feeling that there was going to be a full house from blog one damn i am headed to the city to get my license on being a psychic license

you called the river.i am very disappointed.dont throw good money after bad bud.you didnt have much invested in this hand you could have folded and saved some chips.i think the way i played it out would have avoided the river 7.no more greedy just play the way you know how.gl at the tables
mcleaver Sep 26, 2007 7:19 am
oh and by the way i think i was the only one in blog one that said i would fold
telebob Sep 26, 2007 7:22 am
lmao. The imagination is a funny thing. I can't imagine calling the first bet with bottom pair, no kicker, and straight and flush draws on the board to boot, but of course I'm not the one playing the hand.

The one on your right, bytch7 (lol @ the usernames some folks choose), I still can't figure out. I guess the weak bets convinced him(?) he might be ahead. I figured the SB right tho. C-bet got called, and he was done with it.

Anyway, I'm just gonna come out and say it: You turned a potentially profitable hand into a loser by playing like a donkey. Not that there's anything wrong with that, some of my best friends are donkeys. In fact, I'd lay 2:1 odds that I make more donkey moves than you do. It's just a good thing that you did it in a place that couldn't hurt your bankroll much.

Ok, now looking back, if you played it the way I suggested, you either would have either won a small pot or got stacked, depending on how fishy smalltowngirly really was.
Waterpilot Sep 26, 2007 7:25 am

Good plan Mcleaver!

Iknowwhatyouhav: Well... I couldn't put anyone on Jacks. At this point I still think there was a possibility I was ahead since no one would have made any draws.

The other reason was tilt. I called because I was mad at myself for playing it this way. I could have seen it from the other player but at this point didn't care.

I didn't bring my game to this buy in. That is really where I failed...

iknowwhatyouhav Sep 26, 2007 7:28 am
i think if you would have bet small like i said on last blog you would have avoided the 400 on river.we all make mistakes though so i understand.i do it as well as does everyone
Waterpilot Sep 26, 2007 7:36 am

In all honesty I think my biggest mistake was on the flop. I should have protected my straight from a higher flush draw. I didn't. I WANTED that straight flush.

I did know it at the time as I do now. But.... Didn't pull the trigger... *sigh*

scottyburr1 Sep 26, 2007 7:43 am
Yo Lyle, you are a quality player and u will make mistakes! sit back and learn from them and play yer gm to the best of yer abilities, u can't ask for much more than that right? Oh BTW, u should by now, know the "ur playin too much poker " look from Judy, that's 1 lady i wouldn't want pissed at me dude!!!!!! GL with that hahaha
Waterpilot Sep 26, 2007 7:47 am
Haha Thanks again Scott! And she does have one mean glare... smile
Waterpilot Sep 26, 2007 7:49 am
Oh yeah... And how greedy can one guy be when you flop the nuts and are still chasing a straight flush draw... biggrin
scottyburr1 Sep 26, 2007 7:54 am
HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!! u got that 1 right!!!!!
cloverboy Sep 26, 2007 8:44 am
yes you played the hand bad, but the girl who played 75 played way worse!!! There's no ways she's getting the right odds to call, even if she has your hands figured out. sic.

Farging_Icehole Sep 26, 2007 7:12 pm
I don't agree that you played like a donk. When you slow play u sometimes lose, but you had the best of it till the very end. The guy who won playing 57 was prob not going away no matter what. I would have gotten more aggressive on the turn, but u still would have lost and probably all your chips since I would've raised all in. At least you had a little left after it. Sometimes slow playing is the thing to do though and odds were u were going to win. U got screwed but your not a donk for playing it that way.
easy8 Sep 26, 2007 9:11 pm

wasnt talking about you water pilot

the idiot calling with the 7

Waterpilot Sep 27, 2007 1:05 am

Haha Easy! I was suprised to see she hung on with 75. Maybe because it was soooooooooooted. smile And LOL @ "c. i would throw shit"

Thanks Farging... I knew I was taking a risk by slow playing it. Especially with that many people in the hand. But...

Yeah Colover. I'm not sure what she was doing in the hand but... It paid off. That's just more money for us down the road... smile
