Part 2 What would you do and why?

Sep 25, 2007 10:32 am Report Abuse

Continuation from Part 1, this is Part 2, “The Turn” PLEADE READ THE ONE PRIOR TO THIS FIRST. If you haven’t done so already…

Since everyone had a little bit different opinion (None of which I thought was wrong), lets say you just smooth called the 120 on the flop. Hoping that either the last to act will raise sensing weakness, or knowing that it will be time to shed some (or all) players on the turn.

As it turn out, the last to act, surprisingly, just calls. Same 4 players go to the turn. The pot is now around 990 chips. You still have the 8d9d

The turn is:

*** TURN *** Jc7dTd Js

Ugh why couldn’t that have been the Jack of DIAMONDS!???!?!?!?

This could have become a little bit more perilous with that second jack. However, it didn’t help in any of the drawing situations so that‘s good news, and anyone praying for runner, runner has missed... It could give someone an added confidence, but could also be a scare card for the other players and even possibley you…

It’s possible that Jack gave someone of full house but I think it’s unlikely. One would think that if someone had flopped a set or two pair that there was enough drawing cards on the board for them to make a move and take right there on the flop. But no one did. Unless of course the SB (which is where it would likely come from now) was hoping for a re-raise…But then again… It is poker…

SB checks and the 4th seated player also checks to you. What is going on here? Small bets and checks? No one has really taken control of this so far. It’s your turn to act with one player yet to come.

What is it that you do here and why?

BTW I'll bing doing Part 3 tomorrow afternoon sometime so we can finish this up. I know some are anxious to see how it ends....

And thanks everyone who have participated so far. For me, it's been a fantastic learning experience!

I would say a definite raise here. You have to think you the best hand at this point.

That said, I'm inclined to think you are going to lose this to a full house. Otherwise, you probably wouldn't be going through all this. wink Although I can't understand why they would slow-play a set or top 2 pair after the flop with str8 & flush draw possibilities.

Post raise at the least here. IMHO

Push. I can't see anyone having the boat already, might as well make em pay to draw. I'm pretty sure that SB missed, and the next guy's on a flush draw, or possibly KQ. Maybe Mr. Cut-off hit trips on the turn? If he did, he'll call for sure, then hit his boat on the river.

Coincidentally, that happened to me 3 times tonight. I made straight or flush, guy calls all-in w/ 2-pr or trips, makes boat on river to bust me out. Happened on 3 different sites!

Well, yesterday I was pushing just a little at the flop...here, I'm gonna slow down and see what comes down the river, the possibilities of the other possible hands has maximized, and I don't want to push all my chips in now, and be outdrawn on the river or possibly already outdrawn. Right now, I'm thinking worst scenario is that he's hit quads. If I can check it through, I will, but probably would call a bet. And I'm not counting on that J of diamonds anymore.

Great answers everyone. I really appreciate your time by posting in them... Hopefully it will help others but I know it's helping me learn and become a better player...

At the first read, I didn't realize there was a person to act behind. However, that doesn't change my flop raise. In fact with a player to act behind, the raise is even more urgent. The call in seat 4 is worrying. He could have 77,JT, 89, - if he is loose/passive J7 suited or 10,7 suited. I would bet around 350, a little over 1/3rd of the pot. An overpair and/or a flush draw SHOULD fold to this bet. 89 should also fold to this bet. However, it will be difficult to get a player out of the hand who's holding say AJ. AJ diamonds is a real possibility for one of the hands. Unfortunately, the flop smooth call has left you with no clue as to where your hand stands next to the others and there is a strong possibility your hand is drawing to two outs already. The flop smooth call has left you in a bad spot. Can't wait for the next installment! Great blog!

It's hard to say at this point what I would do. Would probably depend on my mood. This is probably why I don't do so well online. Bleed my money away slowly usually. I would either check it and call any bet or I would push all in. The rationale for pushing is this, if someone has a AJ for example (especially if diamonds) its time to make them pay to see the final card. If they hit so be it, at least I didn't waste a lot of time on this tourny.... lol. I might check being afraid someone played 10 J from the blinds especially or from any position if it is the 10 J of hrts. Either way, I'm a sucker for a str8 w/ str8 flush draw and I doubt I would be able to get away from this hand unless the board pairs again on the river.

wow that jack was a really bad card, but i studied the first hand and i just dont see how that could have helped anyone unless the just called with top pair like qj or something.if thats the case you still have best hand.sb i am worried about pocket pair like jj but i dont understand why he would bet so small with all the draws.i do understand if he did have this hand why he would check.so he could give his opponents a chance to catch up.you know there are two ppl in this hand that are on a draw so i would push.the way this hand was played i dont see how you could be beat here.if you are beat at least you have 2 lousy outs unless of course sb has jj.

Okay this is killing me i couldnt sleep last nite lol darn let me grab a beer and think about this ill post a comment in a few minutes
JadedJude Sep 25, 2007 11:06 pm
Well I probably would not have smooth called it, I would have potted it after the flop....... ANYWAYYYYY.... since you want me to play it as if I did smooth call the 120, at this point, the second jack would be scaring me, so I would pot it or bet a little more than the pot...hoping to push everyone out of it so as not to give anyone the opportunity to hit something on the river. You have the nut flush...what more do you need smile
iknowwhatyouhav Sep 25, 2007 11:10 pm
i forgot we just called the flop so in that case i would check cuz i dont have that much involved in the pot anyways.if sb bets big on river then he has a monster so just fold and find a better spot.if a diamond comes and the first limper bets then he has the flush so i would also fold there as well.now if you raised pre flop i would go with what i said first.
JadedJude Sep 25, 2007 11:11 pm
OOOPS! I meant the NUT STRAIGHT... not flush tongue
Waterpilot Sep 25, 2007 11:17 pm

This is why I love this site... Great answers all the way around!

BTW "The river" will be coming later today (When I said tomorrow it was late last night)

Waterpilot Sep 25, 2007 11:21 pm

What really bothered me here was the small bets and checking. I probably wouldn't have been as bothered but there were (in my poinion) WAY TOO MANY people in the hand for this.

It was hard to put all on a hand. I was worried about the guy in the SB the most but his checking the Jack on the turn baffled me...

mcleaver Sep 25, 2007 11:22 pm

Okay first of all this beer is really tastey

I would throw a probe bet in something small you are sitting with 1350 in chips it is the first hand maybe like 250 and see what kind of action you get if i was reraised i am done running like the police was chasing me

patperk13 Sep 25, 2007 11:22 pm
you have to make a big bet here. Anywhere from 2/3 to the full size of the pot. someone definately tripped up with that J.
