What would you do and why? Part 1

Sep 25, 2007 1:09 am Report Abuse

This happened to me last night and I wanted to break it down an see how others (YOU) would play it…

It’s looking like a three part series I guess…. Next will be the turn and what would you do? The last will be the river card, what would you do, and what happened in the actual hand that I played in. Hope this works… Haha

You’re in the first hand of a sit and go and don‘t know any of the players. Blinds are 15/30. All have the starting stacks of 1500 in chips.

You‘re dealt 8d9d

1)UTG folds

2)Next player Folds

3)Next folds

4)Next player calls

5)You call

6)Cut off calls

7)Dealer Folds

SB Raises to 120

BB folds

All limpers call the raise so there are 4 players going to the pot. Pot has 510 chips in it.

*** FLOP *** Jc7dTd

Not only do you flop a straight, but you also flop an open ended Straight Flush draw!

SB (Original raiser) stalls for a bit and then bets 120.

Next player calls the 120 and it’s to you.

1) Would you just smooth call here to not scare anyone away?

Or do you raise to get some players out?

What is your move here AND why?

i would raise in this postion i have the nuts and it's worth while tryin to get the pot alone and if you get called you probley gonna get paid even more, but drawing to the str8 flush and having the nuts i would either raise or move All in

Yo Lyle is this a trick question? lol huge bet to chase away the river chaser (hopefully) but thats just me
DesertAngel702 Sep 25, 2007 1:16 am
I am smooth calling here and then raising on the turn. I want to get as much money as I can in the pot. You have the best possible hand right now and a very good draw to make a better hand.
misterdream Sep 25, 2007 1:18 am
i would move all in very fast, one because someone could be on a higher flush draw 2 cuzz someone could have a higher str8 draw like K/Q and 3rd someone could of flopped a set...And, any of those hands most likely will make the call because of your fast move all in..then just cross your fingers..lol
Waterpilot Sep 25, 2007 1:19 am
Haha Scott! No! It isn't! At this point it is likely you have the nuts... Do you try and extract as much money as possible? Take it down now? Don't forget about the draw as well.....

I agree with DesertAngel. Smooth call then raise.
undienutter Sep 25, 2007 1:20 am
i wouldnt have called in the first place...i would raise cause of how many people are in....one of them could be drawing to the straight...and i dont want one of them in if i dont get a flush and a 8 or 9 hits....if it was just me and sb i would smooth call....to trap him
misterdream Sep 25, 2007 1:21 am
cant be gready DesertAngel, lol Make them pay if they want to chase a flush or str8 draw..
easy8 Sep 25, 2007 1:21 am

i would just smoothcall

i would end up losing to a higher flush

but thats my luck!!!!!!!! not everybodies luck.

but i bet thats what happen

apatterson Sep 25, 2007 1:23 am
I would bet pot if not more.My reason here is that I wouldn't want anyone catch a flush higher than what you have because that is a possibility. If you don't get your straight flush you could be beaten by a higher flush.Just my opinion I have had sooooo many bad beats that I am a nervous player and always think of the worst thing that could happen to me.
JadedJude Sep 25, 2007 1:24 am

I would probably bet 4-5 times the bb and hope for the best..haha

Slow playing always bites me in the ass.

ALL IN cool
Waterpilot Sep 25, 2007 1:35 am
Playing devils advocate... You know of 4 diamonds out. 2 in your hand and 2 on the board. If another player has 2 then that makes 6 of the 13 diamonds out. You also know that the Jack of diamonds and 6 of diamonds won't help them so that makes 8 of the 13 diamonds out. Unless the person on the higher flush draw has has them in their hand of course... The small blind could have raised with AJ of diamonds for example but the bet post flop doesn't seem to indicate it....
Waterpilot Sep 25, 2007 1:35 am
IF he's on a higher flush draw I should say...

ok this is my thing about tournament play idont see why ueven called on the first place a pf raise of 120 i think u said that early in the tournament when the blinds are not even worth playin here at this stage i even fold hand like aj kt and soo on unless i have a good pp and i have raiser behind me but since u played ur cards and got solucky i think u should smooth play and raise on turn u want to get at least the amount of ur staring chips from te rest of them good chance someone with higher flush draw is in a field that big.....
scottyburr1 Sep 25, 2007 1:40 am
It's like I said bud, who wants some donk chasin ya to the river hopin to catch a higher flush or str8 draw, i see ur on a str8 flush draw but bro u gotta look at the bigger picture, u have 4 guys in already and u must get rid of the chasers or make them pay dearly! It's the only way to play this hand cause foldin a str8 isn't an option
larry1dart Sep 25, 2007 1:43 am
The pots too big for you to allow chasers when you hold the nutz with a better draw. All-in here, make them pay to play there chase cards and if you lose, you know you had urs in with the best hand.
patperk13 Sep 25, 2007 1:44 am
I would smooth call hoping that someone would put me on a flush draw and make a big bet on the turn to try and push me out.
easy8 Sep 25, 2007 1:45 am

you explained tour flush theory

what abou Q 9 for open ended or Q 8 for gut shot this is online

you dont know who u are playing

u only have the nuts on the fop

ALL IN

Waterpilot Sep 25, 2007 1:46 am

Haha I KNEW I was going to get alot of "I wouldn't have been in the hand anyway".

Normally I wouldn't be so I agree. You'll find out why it was called in the end. BUT! Having 2 additional callers should be a clue. Haha

I understand this may have been a bad play with a lucky flop. But if everyone could just humor me and continue with the situation for fun and possible future use...
