** AUSSIE BIRD FEED #113 **

Sep 2, 2007 8:46 pm Report Abuse

Railbird name: crows02
Age: 38
Gender: Male
Location: Adelaide Australia
Years Playing Poker: 18 months
Fav. game: NLHE – Although have taken a huge liking to PL Omaha
Fav hand: Q8s
Fav Poker Site: Various – FTP though have lost alot there, Hollywood because I have won more there than I lost at FTP and Stars put together
PS ID: crows02
FTP ID: adelaidecrows02

#1 Why did you chose your Railbird.com screen name/ what does it mean?

My Australian Rules foot ball team is the mighty Adelaidecrows

#2 How many hours each day/week spent playing poker on?

30-40 hours per week

#3 How would you define your style of play?

TA early in MTT’s and LA in the later stages

#4 Poker Achievements?

Took down some nice $20 and $50MTT’s at Hollywood

#5 what brought you to join railbirds in the first place, and what keeps u here ?

I first met Mrs Magoo and The Wall at FTP, and then spoke to Wall through the FTP forums. He and I did a money exchange and then one nite Mrs Magoo suggested I try railbirds. What I like the most about railbirds is that it is full of genuine individuals that want to learn about poker, but also want to create a friendly environment about it. I love the fact that there are numerous players here that are extremely good, yet they remain at ground level, willing to help others. Finally I am impressed with Railbirds and the way they provide ongoing freerolls – I think this is taken for granted by alot of players.

#6 Which pro would you like to face in a HU match and why?

Mark Vos – I want to talk to him about the night he got busted in my home town

#7 how have you improved your game...was it by lots of practice, was it by books you have read and if so, which books, was it by playing live ??

I have learnt an extreme amount by practice. Before I picked up a book, I played alot of hands, and through away alot of money, because I didn’t really take it too seriously. I then sat back and realised that I really wanted to learn alot more about the game, and wanted to take it to a next level. I stopped depositing money, and read alot of forums, and then started on books. My all time favourite would have to be Phil Gordons “Little Green Book”. After reading this I then equated it to how I had been playing (very poorly) and then enrolled at Poker School Online. I then did a 12 week online course through the school, and started to realise where I was going wrong, and started to apply myself more.

#8 What advice for somebody starting to play?

Think about what you want to be. If you want to be a gambler, then get help. If you want to play for fun, then stick to play money, or a little bit of money here and there. If you want to take the game seriously, don’t throw away hard earnt money before you make an attempt. Read books, forums, articles in magazines – talk to other players etc etc.

#9 I would be interested in knowing how many Railbirds played seriously competitve games such as Poker, Chess, Risk, etc., at a young age?

I played alot of Euchre as a boy and teenager, but apart from that I only ever really played with girls.....:0)

#10 How do you play differently in tournaments vs. cash games?

The only cash games I play are Omaha, and that is to hard to compare to how I play my MTT’s in NLHE.

#11 What would you consider a weakness in your game/ something you need to improve?

Lol, knowing when I am beat, but still making the call trying to get lucky.....

#12 What are some typical "TELLS" that a online Poker player is bluffing ?

Depends on the level, but shooting out bets too quick or overbetting the pot

#13 How Has Railbirds.com helped your game play?

Confidence. I have found some people here refer to me as a decent player, which I honestly don’t believe to be true. However, having people say that gives me more determination and confidence to be the best that I can. I can talk the talk, I just need to walk the walk more.

#14 Best Moment in a trny ?

Knocking out number 2 for my first MTT win on my birthday this year

#15 Most recent trny win?: (non railbird trny)

July at Hollywood

#16 Who intrduced you to poker ?

The media

#17 How does your strategy help in Freerolls provided by Railbirds.com?

I don’t play them. I believe that I am lucky enough to be able to afford a decent BR, and recognise that alot of people don’t – so I don’t want to try and win some moeny that other players deserve more than me. I feel like it is taking advantage of what Railbirds is offering.

#18 Any tips for Railbird members when sitting at a table with you lol ???

Dont call my all in with 66 – ok I see you Mrs laughing at this, and I did build that bridge :0)

#19 Where do you see your self in 1 year playing poker?

Hopefully earning the right to be called a good/decent/solid player

#20 What other Hobbies do you have besides playing poker ?

Spending time with my wife and baby, and overseeing other business interests.

Could I please also make an additional comment?

Firstly I would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to yourself and all of the ProRails. The effort that you go to, to ensure that we are able to have a community gets under recognised in my opinion, and I have the utmost respect for the efforts all of you make. So thank you.
Lastly – I notice a lot of comments in blogs/threads that refer to “online friends” not being real but someone over the internet. I disagree and want to thank each of you that are on my friends list and that take the time to pm me each day or from time to time. Just because we are online doesn’t make a friendship any different. In fact, it can be a stronger friendship because we all have the ability to share things that we may not necessarily normally be able to, for fear out of embarrassment or what ever. All of the birds that I talk to, reply too, have a little spot in my heart and I am grateful that I have had the chance and hope to continue to have the chance to share a little bit of my life with you. Love you all and please take care.!!!
