No more freerolls

Jan 4, 2010 12:15 am Report Abuse

Hi all,

We probably all knew this day would come. Railbirds will no longer be offering regular freerolls.

It was a blast, being able to offer them for so long, but the site is not financially that stabie. We had hoped that revenue would make up for freeroll losses - but we were wrong.

Over the years, we have given out over $350,000 in freerolls. That's more, I believe, than most if not all other poker communities.

On the bright side, this will

1. Get rid of password thieves
2. Get rid of a lot of site drama
3. Allow us to join the OFC - which we will officially, as soon as a few things are cleared

I expect this blog to be filled with negative comments. By all means, go ahead. I hope you're not too unkind. After all, we've funded many players' bankrolls.

There will be a January real money schedule - but without freerolls - shortly. We do intend to host a lot of games this year, just not freerolls. And the rankings will be updated, but I still miss all December results from Full Tilt.

That's all for today. I'm sorry. Not the best way to start a new year.

Sincerely,
RailJoe / InfoBird

Sounds like a good business decision. I know that some may not like it but too much railbird money has gone to non railbirds.

No negativity here. Think it's the right thing. So long as RMR's & ranking stay in place, sounds good!

I really never cared about the freerolls, I know I am still going to enjoy the site even without them

No apologies needed. It was a great and generous perk for the railbirds (and unfortunately password thieves) while it lasted. I think it is a wise decision especially if it was causing financial stress for the site.

Thanks for letting us know, I'm sure you hated to have to cancel them.

OFC is the online forum challenge that all other poker forums have been doing for the last year, just railbirds not

Good deal! Good luck all!

I had pretty much stopped playing the freerolls - the level of play had diminished so greatly over the past 2 years (mainly due to the pw thieves) that it just wasn't worth the time investment.

Personally, I see this change as an improvement.
