How is this Possible !

Jan 1, 2010 8:26 pm Report Abuse

So I was on a cash game, The Final hand, My and the guy across are all in about the same amount of chips, I had a K J in my hand, The flop comes and The flop is K Q J, So now at this point I have two pairs but he could have a possible straight, The turn is another J , so now I have my full house, I knew I had this, But then again the guy across the table knew he had it as well, the river card is a 5, The guy across the table Throws his cards and shows a Q J, As he was about to grab the chips. I drop down my K J, I won the game With a full house Jacks over Kings. He though he took it with Jacks over Queens, So when The game was final the guy was flipping out, needless to say he was never invited back to play again, we tried to exsplain that it was just a game and you win some and others you won't. What can I say.

Say No More...

Memo to your opponent: You've got to know in that circumstance that you don't have the nuts, so don't be grabbing for the chips until all the cards have been shown. KK, QQ, JJ, or KJ all have you beat from the flop onward! Bottom two pair is a treacherous holding when the board is all paint....

poker is so popular it has attracted a lot of people that really don't have the temprement for the game.

it's unfortune the guy couldn't see the big picture. some people are simply unable to accept the fact that their really, really good hand can be beat

they usually react to losing like it's a personal insult to them. as if they are being cheated.

i lost 9/10s of my chips to a one outter in a tourney the other day and i said 'nh' to the player who won. someone not even in the hand commented, 'you lost almost all of your chips and you're saying 'nh'? you're an idiot!'

i laughed to myself. apparently the commentator has never heard of sportsmanship.

Wntrlnd,

In those spots I think its best to say nothing.

I played a home game, penny ante more about drinking than playing cards. Anyway, me and another guy, Gary, were betting heavy, you know capping the bet at 50 cents pre/post flop and $1.00 on the turn and river and I hit a str8, though not the nut str8 and with a possible flush on the board. I show my cards and Gary mucks his into the pile where his wife grabs them asking what he had, flips over his cards and sees that he had the higher str8. She starts saying that it should be Gary's as he had the better hand. I argue that he mucked his cards therefore he automatically lost, regardless of his hand ranking (wish that the WSOP had already happened so I could point to Phil Ivey in my argument!) Gary was smart enough to stay out of it but the dude whose house it was (who didn't know me) agreed with Gary's wife and they try to figure out how much the pot was, which I've already added to my stack, and she starts trying to count my chips. I was flabbergasted (yes, I actually was) that they didn't know the rules and told them that I wouldn't give back the pot and they could either cash me out or refund my buy-in and, either way, I would leave. That started a big argument over giving me ANY money and I just said screw it and left, basically, giving them my $20 buy-in and walking away with nothing. Had I kept all the chips I would have been chip leader by almost 3x the next player adn if I had cashed out I would have left with a little over $70. Needless to say Gary's wife and I don't get along (I always tell her C-U-Next-Tuesday before I leave... she just looks at me like I am talking a foriegn language and Gary's smart enough not to enlighten her!)

Gary and I still play, but his wife is never invited and makes sure she's out of the house when the game is at Gary's!

Wntrlnd,

Nahh, in that situation you DO want to say 'nh' -- or at worst 'nc' for Nice Catch -- because you want fish to keep chasing their one-outers. Sure, it sucks to lose to them once in a while, but in the long run it's to your financial advantage for people to play that way.
