smartcar? Love it or hate it?

Jul 1, 2009 6:37 am Report Abuse

So... a month ago, the company I was working for closed their doors and I've been sending out resumes here and there... and came across a sales position for the smart car. Here are some pics and there are different options etc... What do you think? I'm still getting used to it but am pretty excited to be learning about something new and different!! I start tomorrow morning!

Please note.... I will not really be "selling" these as most are pre-ordered ahead of time with a $99 reservation online! I do more relationship building and follow-up, test drives and delivery! Sounds like FUN to me!

smart

The smart fortwo with its small stature provides excellent maneuverability in the city. On the road, its exceptional fuel economy makes it a great commuter vehicle.

The smart fortwo is available in either pure, passion, or BRABUS trims. The pure is solely available in coupe form, while the passion and BRABUS are offered as a coupe or cabriolet. Power comes from a 1.0-liter three-cylinder gasoline engine mated to a five-speed automated manual transmission. Standard safety features include electronic stability program, anti-lock brakes, four-airbags, and tridion safety cell.

Here are a couple of links for OTHER uses for the smartcar. These lil babies have quite the following!! :

I'll let you know what I think after I drive one! They are very popular with a select group and a lot of people buy them (they are not cheap!) and tear the motor out first thing and some put monster truck tires on them and and and.... make them into race cars... it's very interesting!

practical ( maybe )

however, Unamerican ( SUV's and big cars are unfortunatly our preference )

This car should do better with higher gas prices... just like the hybrids that sales are weaning now with lower gas prices, and a bad econmy

I have seen motorized phone booths and motorized bar stools. This appears to have a longer option list.....

This thing looks like a deathtrap. I'm guessing that any collision over 15MPH totals this car. The website says the mileage on one of these things is only around 31/44 MPG on a car that retails in the neighborhood of $20K. I could buy a hyundai for $12k or a ford focus for 14k and get nearly the same mileage. What exactly is so smart about these cars anyway?

i read an article on these things and it hyped the car all up like articles do, and at the end it said "note.. smartcar did not fair too well in crash tests" i laughed for a good 10 minutes. like they really need to put that in there

Being stationed in germany, I see these cars all the time, very popular over here where iam at. They really are very good cars and they even have a really cool looking roadster one. Resembles an older hot rod car, very cool looking roadster.

I does sort of look like a modernized Isetta (Urkel's car) or an old Messerschmidt.

The cabriolet version is a pretty big seller in southern Europe where the climate is good.

HAVING READ A FEW COMMENTS

I never understood the mentality about buying a car to save money. If you have enough to buy a car, you have enough to pay highergasoline prices? What would you rather do? If you by a new car, you do both. Where do you save money?

I too think the vehicle looks like death waiting. Please explain the specs on the safety cell. I'd feel bad if I hit one with my blazer or crown vic.

I guess there would be advantages in owning one, like nose in parking where everyone else would have to park parallel. As the owner of a full size conversion van that I love to drive, I can't see me ever wanting such an automoblie, however with a smile and a wink, you could probly sell anyone a pair of them...lol... I really do hope the new job works out for you !

....Tc....

Me_Tom Jul 1, 2009 1:47 pm

lol, they are driving those around in europe for years and years already. And no it isnt a death trap (altho getting hit @ full speed by a truck will hurt LOL). But indeed great around the city,
