$100 Railbirds.com Freeroll PL Omaha H/L on Nov 20

Nov 21, 2008 10:09 pm Report Abuse

I want to thank everyone for the rail last night who stopped by to cheer me on. Ya just gotta love that RAZOR cheerleader crew. PL Omaha H/L is not my favorite game at all. I'd been practicing some in play money games recently after taking the time to read through the excellent blogs posted by cj28000 (thank you so very much cj for your excellent blogs). I sat down and was at an insane table with raise-itis to the max every card every hand. I didn't even play a hand until 2nd round of 3rd level when I was down to around 1100 chips just from blinds.

I got HOT and hit a few real good hands in a row. I then hit a wheel str8flush on the turn with 2 people in and them pushing me. I loved it!!! I busted them both and the table closed and I couldn't get a screenshot or hand history. As the tourney went on I played very tight only playing a hand when I had 2 of the A234 and still folded some of them when the raising before me made it not worth the chance on the low draw. I never once raised pre-flop and only called a raise preflop when I had a monster hand like AA23 dbl suited. I never chased a straight or flush unless I was guaranteed a split with the low already.

We had gotten down to 2 tables and I was sitting with a little over 80k in chips and still playing my game as I had strategized from the beginning with the help of cj's blogs. I hit a few hands here and there as one then another busted out keeping my shipstack about the same level. There were 11 left when it happened again. I hit another wheel straight flush again this time on the flop. 4 of us in the hand and I sloplay it to raisers and betters. We end up at the FT as the table closes again with not screen shot or hand history. I'm sitting on about 230k now and in 3rd place to 2 big ship stacks.

1st hand I get AAK5 dbl suited and limp, again. The flop comes with an A on board with no other low card. A shorter stack pushes pot and I come over top to put him allin and he busts. We are down to 8 and I am near 290k. A round goes by when I catch A246 and limp with 3 others including the BB. The flop comes 446 and I am ecstatic. What a hit for me!!! I thought. The BB is relatively short stacked with a little over 100k and he pushes allin, everyone else folds and I do a quick call for over 1/2 my chips at the time. He turns over 66 for the higher FH flop and I gasp (OUCH). Well I can get a 4 or the low still. The board finishes with 2 paint and I'm hurt bad now with just under 100k.

I finished in 5th place. The fun part was I was trying a new strategy for PLO h/l and it worked. As the point bubble approached I was just grinning to know I was gonna get some points out of this. Then the ITM bubble came and went and I kept grinning wanting the points more than anything. Then the run down to the Final Table I got more and more HAPPY. This finish and the one the other day should push me into the Top 100 for the year finally. I didn't make it back until late April or early May from a 6 month Poker sabbatical and I've been able to grind it out to get there in 6 months.

Thanks all for reading this and GL on the felts.

I swear a bomb blew up in my home as soon as this tourney started! I only lasted like four hands, and the sad past is on pretty much everyone I could have one had I played it out, at least the low. But all the kids, my wife, and my ex on the phone about our son was too much. I was making big bets because I had a good hand and then being folded from running out of time because I was distracted! RRRRRRRR and Omaha H/L is my best game!!!
