My 0 cents in the freeroll PW thieves debacle

Nov 20, 2008 11:51 am Report Abuse

I've seen various ideas regarding this - min buyin's and other assorted insanity... I have the best idea yet though:

Now before I tell you , yes I KNOW that this will mean more work for some poor bugger, but I get the feeling that those who run this site care enough to take on the extra work.

Also be aware that this works only becase the registration is only opened 1 hour before the tournament starts... so the person in charge for this tourney has only to be available for this hour

No user registration!!...you receive the invite as normal, and instead of the password it just gives you a link to the prorail in charge... you then message him/her to ask to be registered.

cozman Nov 20, 2008 12:47 pm
all thats going to lead to is a prorail going postal on someone that means they have less than and hr to register 1k people sorry but that SUCKS all your going to do is tick off people for not getting in and the poor prarails are going to be like F this its to much work
PixelGnome Nov 20, 2008 12:58 pm
If it's set up properly - ie the prorail gets a page on the site with a list of all the people who have replied to him, that links to the ft site (like the pages that allow ppl to enter the regional freerolls) then it will be about 2 minutes work for the prorail. It may even be possible for the railbirds to have their own 'register' button on the site... the programming for this would take me less than a day. The only thing needing to be organised is having ft allow the page referrer to be railbirds.com. If they won't allow that, then they may agree to having a page that is only accessible to specific people - e.g. 6 raibirds prorails. this page they can set up and allow this prorail to paste all registrants into a text box, and press register.

In essence, if we can get ft to cooperate in ALMOST ANY way, then this pw problem disappears.

sure, sending 60.000 individual passwords one by one isnt that hard eh

Yea it is a very good idea, but the workforce you would need for that.. If the company was multi million i could see it being done
vixenx78 Nov 20, 2008 2:19 pm
i feel sorry for that prorail being hammered for an hour str8, thats just stupid
ButtonDog Nov 20, 2008 3:57 pm
Everybody would be in trouble if I were a prorail having to do this. I am the slowest typist on the face of the planet. Not everybody would get registered.
CtPokerholic Nov 20, 2008 4:28 pm
ButtonDog,

I challenge you to a typing contest, slowest wins, I think I’m slower

"Buttondog: Everybody would be in trouble if I were a prorail having to do this. I am the slowest typist on the face of the planet. Not everybody would get registered. "

Isn't that the point? To reduce the number of people who get registered? LOL

Would never work. Normally have to shut down PRE reg like that 48 hours before tourney to allow FTP to get it done... with PokerStars... never happen. I think things are going better now however ButtonDog did make a very good suggestion in a previous post about playing for points only .. until a once a week $$ freeroll tourney....

Thanks.

Now I read your idea about the link... I'm sorry but I don't think that would work either.. and what about PokerStars? Again, I think we're much better off now and I guess it doesn't really bother me much if a few people get through.. no biggie (IMO).

Good luck.

Send the PW about 10 minutes before the games start. we know what games are starting when . They wont have time to shop them around.

Moondoggie2 Nov 20, 2008 5:38 pm

I don't want to be the prorail

monsternuts26 Nov 20, 2008 5:45 pm
Why not just a page like the one for the Thanksgiving tournament?
thabibster Nov 20, 2008 5:52 pm
