What is there to do..

Nov 20, 2008 10:21 am Report Abuse

Now i played a 8.80$ tourny on tilt some time ago.

I was chipleader most of the time but at 15 players left i draw card dead. When we where down to 10 man i got A-K off and desided that it has to be my hand. The blinds are 3000-6000 and i sit with around 71000 on the button. I raise to 14000 and the BB who has been very loose calls my raise. (The BB has around 120.000 so he got me cowerd)

The flop is:

2 2 K

To stop the pot there and then i bet all inn and get instant called by the BB. I show my A-K and he turns up 2H-4H. The turn and river gives nothing and i get knocked out of the tourny.

Is there anyway i could have played this diffrently?

First off, I wouldn't have raised only 2.33xBB, that's too small. For that much, you might as well have limped in. I would have made it 4-5xBB. But against a loose player, all-in may be your best bet pre-flop. Since you had over 10BB left, it may have may made even the loosest player stop and think. He'd only be getting essentially 1:1 on his money so it's not really worth it, unless he really just wants you out. At 2.33xBB he's getting almost 3:1 to call. Those are pretty good odds, when he only really needs 2:1 to make the call.

Secondly, you pushed on the flop. That smacks of desperation. Normaly, you'd make a continuation/value bet or check if you hit big. As he did with set. Since he checked, you need to get more information out of him. 1/2 to pot sized bet is good enough. There's no reason to build a monster pot in this situation, because you could be behind with that board. With only 5 outs to improve.

Anyway, there are a few different scenarios that can play out after that. But IMO you misplayed the hand from the beginning
