Need an actual headcount here!! Please Read!!

If any of you have seen my thread or blog on a possible ventrilo server before, I am now asking this. Is there enough interest for me to purchase one for railbirds use??

I have talked with RailJoe and he says I may go ahead and purchase a server as long as people understand that it has nothing officially to do or tie in with the RailBirds community.

The idea would be just to supply another means for Railbirds around the globe to unite under aside from forums, blogs, RB chat and MSN/Yahoo. We would be striving to maintain standard Railbirds rules of conduct in the public rooms, with options for password protected censorship free rooms. We could also employ private rooms for the different clans inside of the Railbirds. There are alot of options out there.

The cost would be mine and mine alone, with no cost incurred to railbirds as a community or personally. The reason I started this blog is to find out if it is actually worth my time and money. The vent servers don't cost much but they do cost money. As for finding out about the possible interest, well that is done purely because there are many varying sizes of servers from almost free 10 man servers to unlimited access ones. The costs are varying as well from size of servers to quality of servers. I plan on purchasing the higher quality ones but if there is enough desire from say 100 people, I need to know what size to buy.

For those unacquainted with venrtilo, it is a voice communications system. Therefore you would need a working microphone to take part in it. They do have a text chat option but it's rarely used and not very good at all.

If any clans or individual people are interested, I need you to actually reply to this blog. Please just state that you are interested and would use such a platform if I am willing to go out and put it in place. "aye" is good enough, the "nays" can also vote if you wish

Remember, this would be personally run, offered up to you for free use, I cannot and will not guarantee that you may not run into something you find offensive, but will do my best to keep the public rooms inside the server free of such garbage. No-one shall abuse others inside such a forum, as maintained on this site by the railbirds as it stands. No racial and/or ethnic slurs. Same old.

It does open up the ability to have rooms set aside for political/religious debates or whatever you'd like to see as a group.

I am also hoping that we could find some help from the moderators from railbirds themselves to keep everything in as much order as possible. I have no problems handing the ability to remove/ban or mute people on a voice platform, just as they would be here. If there are any moderators out there that are interested, let me know. In such endeavours, people could always use a hand. If you are worried about your computer skills, don't be. Ventrilo is pretty basic for most moderator functions, they can be easily taught to you.
