I was cleaning out yet another closet and came across my first computer. It was IBM's first desktop model, had an amazing 4.77 mhz CPU, 512k of memory and a 10 meg hard drive that was 3 times the size of today's hard drives.
I can remember, vaguely, thinking just how big 10meg was and would I ever be able to fill it up. Also, I used a program on it called DoubleDos which let you split the computer into 2 parts. One part I used for my own purposes, the other part had a BBS up.
For those of you who are too young to remember, before AOL there were bulletin board systems. These ran off someone's computer, attached to a phone line that the users could dial in on. After awhile there was something called FIDO which was a precursor to Usenet I suppose, you would have special forums on your board that were FIDO compatible and at 2am FIDO would call and download your messages, if any and upload all the gathered messages from other FIDOnet users.
I can't recall the exact timeframe of all this, I want to say around 1985 or so. I wonder if these computers are worth anything yet, or do I have to keep them for another 50 years?

Ahhh, yes.
I( have a lap top that still uses 2 3.5 flops to run. One with the os and the other to store the info. No hard drive, I think, everything is onboard. About 20 lbs too! lol
I had an 8088 also.! lol
Good luck on the tables.
My first experience with computers - - - I remember it as an option in high school, and thinking "Who in the bleep would bother with that crap, as if we're ever going to be using those in our homes, pffftt.."
Then I used an old dinosaur up until a couple of years ago, with 256RAM and 8GB Hardrive, an IBM. I found out it was worth -$5.... the 'dumping fee' so I've kept it cuz there's still a ton of ink left in the $60 cartridge I bought for it 2yrs. ago, lol.
lmaaaaaaaaao tiltaholic..... i just replaced the one you got rid of....omg i'm lmaaao. And WoW!! I'd hang onto the "antique" Ted. Whatta find !!! Also remembering turning down the comp classes offered when I was taking auto body repair..... boy that's been a long time ago.. (1988) Which was a "taboo" course for women to take in the first place (graduated at the top of the class tho!)
Thx for the memories!!!!!
Remember my first. Commador 64 ran is DOS.
Could do some great things with that and still use some of the dos i learned from it.
You call that old..
At my parents house I have the original Sinclair ZX81 with 1K of memory..
OK I'll see that and raise you.
I had a Binatone computerised game. It was ping pong tennis and had two paddles, three games and the screen was solely black and white.
Amazingly I was the envy of the street as games like this were only for rich kids. The fact my parents had to beg the bank to lend them the money to buy it is something we never told anyone.
Then I got the Atari games console on the first day it was released in the UK. It was advertised as the most advanced games console EVER.. If you were given one now you;d laugh at how primitive it was.
Anyone remember BASIC? My first computer was a Tandy TRS-80...
10 Let x=1
20 For x=1 to 10
30 x=x+1
40 Print x
50 Next x
60 End
Should I even remember that when I don't remember what I did last week?
ZX Spectrum + and then a Commodore 64....Floppy Disk?...Who needs em?!?...I got all I need on this little cassette right here....You want colours?...This puppy can show you black, white AND blue and green...that's right......Blue and Green...This bad Boy can do it all....You hear that screaching noise?? My new new flash dot matrix printer.
Ahhhh the good old days
