I dont play bad, i have bad situations.

Nov 18, 2008 11:01 pm Report Abuse

i find myself losing a lot of chips, not because im playing badly, but because the situations that i get in are really tricky.

For instance, i raise from the button after it all folds to me. (looks like steal, hand range is wide)... I get called by the BB only (his calling range is wide, suited connectors, marginal K Q A etc... Flop come A A K two diamonds. He check calls my flop bet, (looks like a C-bet, i mean would i bet an A here?) Turn is a 7s and he check calls another bet. River is a blank, like a 5 that doesnt complete a flush. He checks again!... so im thinking like a weak suited king, a busted flush draw, K10 off etc.. I bet the river light. and he calls. shows AQ.

then, i get aces really early. This table is super tight... so i call an UTG raise 4x BB and i get 1 caller after me and the BB and SB. Flop comes 10 5 2 with 2 clubs. This is a good flop cuz i dont think that the guy after me is calling with 10-5 or 5-2 or 10-2... im just worried about the blinds now. Maybe 10-10 from the UTG raiser.

the sb bets out halfpot, so now im kinda weirded out a bit. BB folds, original raiser smooth calls, I want to raise, but if SB re raises im folding. So i opt to smooth call to see what happends on turn because i'm thinking someone has a flush draw... the guy after me smooth calls. Turn is a 3 no flush complete. SB checks, thinking ok lets semi bluff didnt work, check... BB checks, I check, because im only scared of a flush at this point i dont have anyone on a straight... now the last person to act bets 80% pot and sb and utg fold.

Now im thinking he might have A10, or J10 and think top pair is good or HE might be the one with a flush draw and is semi bluffing because of all the weakness shown, so i raise him all in (which is a correct bet size for the pot, his bet, my stack and his stack, thinking he might fold the draw... but he calls with a set of 5s im drawing to a gutter wheel and i miss it and im out.

Then i was playing in a cash game .10/.25 game 9 handed. I limp utg with 66. the guy after me raises 3xBB... it folds around and the blinds fold. So im guessing a big ace or sorts. The flop roles out 7 5 3.. now there is about 2 bucks in the pot. i have 8 behind and he has 10. I check, figuring he would C-bet and i can raise him off his hand, i elected to check raise because it looks stronger and he would fold a weak A possibly like A7 and he would obviously fold AK/AQ. he bets 2 Bucks, so i re-raise with my 66s and a gut shot, plus the pot sized bet looked weak to me. So when i raise all in, he calls with JJ so again, im drawing to a gutter and im out.

Am i playing badly or are my choices harder to make because i play tricky and get in crazy situations?

You seem to be making bad reads and not giving your opponents credit. According to you in the first scenario you didn't even consider a low pair calling to see a flop. You thought about 10s but didn't put anyone on it. The second scenario you called a raise in front with no other players with a low pair. You cannot expect to win those more then not, you have to guess at either being behind or in a flip, the only way you are STRONGLY ahead is if he has 5s or lower.
