yes good question any suggestions on the programs out there?
Lostinlife33 Nov 18, 2008 3:53 pm
I don't use them. I use the 4/2 rule. I would assume that there would be little time to use a calc in an online tourney. Math is important, but there is a lot more things to consider. Position, situation, the players in the hand, etc, etc. If you are using al your time on a calc, how are you gonna have time do the other things. Just my 2 cents. GL

I don't use them while playing, but afterwards, use them a lot when reviewing play, to see if my calls were good. I have a link to a really good one on my home page, that is downloadable, and free !

I don't use them for this reason, I have the ability to read players and rely on my "gut" feeling, which is usually right. I think if you get use these statistical handicaps , it will hurt your game. What will you do in the live games? Good Luck and always Peace ~

Yea could someone please post a link? Also, people with PDA's, ipod touch's or iphones can download poker calc's that you can use on there. That can speed things along while in game online too in my opinion. If your sitting at a full table online and are in good position you probably have plenty of time to use a calc if you do it swiftly, but, don't let it distract you as Lostinlife33 said.

I purchased Texas Calculatem. I believe it was like $70.00 for a year. Its great. Check it out. You can also try other ones for free. Alot of them offer free trials. You can adjust Texas Calclatem however you would like as far as what hands to play from what position. Good tool to have its gotten me out of some tough spots.

its a good think to analyse the own playing after a match. which programm would you recommed me?
RansomHammer Nov 18, 2008 4:42 pm

I agree during a game is not the time. You have to be able to know the math pretty quickly and move on to the important decisions in the hand seamlessly. This is very important "Live" where I have most of my experience....I also track my hand histories and calculate later if I have a question. This keeps me honest with myself, hones my skills at calculating odds "on the fly", etc. I personally don't like the programs they have out there...but that's just me. It's like getting "Cliff's Notes" instead of "Reading the Book". You get the gist of it, but that's it. I think growth is stymied by this shortcut. You start relying on numbers alone, and you forget to learn the rest of the game... Math is a tool at the poker tabIe, and I agree with Lostinlife33...there is so much more to consider in poker that a calculator can't tell you.

of all the ones I have seen the better ones are the ones that track a players style especially in Mt play, i would be as concern about odds as the style and being able to make notes or color them as you can on ftp helps you
rogabee Nov 18, 2008 4:59 pm
I only use them afterward...during the game they are a distraction.
Pokahhh Nov 18, 2008 6:42 pm
use pokerstove to run your hands after...
WiRYu Nov 19, 2008 2:52 pm
Think!!! dont use calc only after play and watcht ur hands probably!
