Morning All

Nov 18, 2008 7:28 am Report Abuse

Morning everbody and

Didn't get a lot. Only got little over 3 inches of snow last night. That good ole heavy wet stuff. Some places near by got over a foot of it, and far as I'm concerned. They can keep it. Over the tug hill region, heard reports of 20 inches and more. They to can keepit right there. Course that area has always been known as the snow belt region, and even when right here. We used to get hit hard with that dang stuff. For ever foot we got, that area got better then a foot more. My grandparents on my mothers side, was born and died way up in no mans land. The road they lived on, was called the Rector Road. Went for near 20 miles to the end of it, and they was the last homestead on the road. Farmed it all their lives, and might add, lived well and knew how to prepare themselves for the hard harsh winters. Very seldom was any of them able to get out and go to town. The ole Owens farm was the last place I know of the plows kept the road open. From there to end of road which was about 12 more miles, you were pretty much snowed in. In case of emergency, there was always a team of horses and sleigh they could get out on. So needless to say, before winter set in, them folks made sure they had enough provissions to see them through out the winter to spring. Now to me, that's what winter and life was all about. I know I would be right in my glory if I lived like that. No electric power, no dang telephone to keep answering. Best of all, no sales folks coming round trying to sell ya some dang confounded useless thing. Yup, that's the life for sure.

Now I sure gotme a good laugh from all the pics that was sent of Gusy yesterday. And HUSH ya all that sent pics. It's my story and can tell it any way I want. The last one I got, I hant going to tell ya all TuckyBud sent it. Is the closest pic of Gusy yet,and is only a few years ago. Wonder what Gusy looks like now?

Take that, ya ole shrivilled dried up unetable prune. What ya think Stardust, think I won now?

I did manage to deliver the dog house to my oldest daughters last night. To my surprise, I brought back more building material then I took down. Nice pieces of ply wood, and many 4 foot 2X4"s. My youngest daughter lives right next door to my oldest one, and her man works construction, and gets many good scraps of material and I'm the one who gets them. To me, that is a gold mine. He is going to save all the good ones for me. There is a heaven after all. Only problem I have now,is to find a place to store it. My shop is pretty much full as it is. But I can always, stack it out doors under cover. Which is probably what I will have to do. For the mostpart, I won't be using much of that stuff until next spring anyways. Sure will come in handy then. Dang I got some good son-in-laws, always thinking of me,and things I can use. And they know, I'm right here when and if they ever need me for anything. So guess you could say,one hand washes the other. Or as Stan (on Loral and Hardy) would say."One hand deserves the other". Did ya ever watch that comedy team? I'm sure I have watched ever episode they ever did, and many of them lots of times. Ole Stan Loral and Oliver Hardy, still to me the best comedy team ever there was. Just a while back, there was a 24 hour marathon of their shows. I taped ever one of them, and since have watched ever one. More then likely will end up watching them at least a few more times yet. Dang, I guess I kind of got off track what I was talking bout. Oh well, don't matter to me,if it don't matter to you none. I find I do that a lot from time to time. May take a day or 2 before I get back to where I started. Then by that time, I had forgotten what it was, so didn't matter anyways.

Think my CRS kicked in real early today. Last night as I was laying in bed before going to sleep. I was as always do, sorting out what I planed on doing the next day. Well I thought I had it all good to go, now hant got a clue what da hell it was. Oh well,it will come to me maybe tomorrer or next day. I know one thing I need to do which wasn't on my list of things to do. Is go get a hair cut, starting to get in my eyes lol. Either that or will be required to obtain a bandanna to tie it up with. I was going to say, "when your good, ya got to look good" But then came to my sences, I was good just once in my life. And it was the worst 2 minutes I ever spent, hant doing that ever again. Thought I was going to have to take an extra heart pill from just the thought of it. I'm ok now though thank you.

My mrs made up a big ole batch of different kinds of cookies last Sunday, She made some, pumkin ones, some fruity ones, some sugar cookie ones, and some I can't identify. Cookies are my weakness, just don't seem to be happy until they are all gone and looking for more. I hant much good at baking cookies, so kind of leave that up to her. Now pies, that's another story. I do like and can if I have to say so myself make some dang good ones. And will be making here very shortly.Probably by next Tuesday or Wednesday.Being Thanksgiving is not this coming Thursday, but the following Thursday. Now where da hell was I? Oh yeah, my favorite ones she makes is the pumkin ones. The other ones are good, but give me pumkin cookies any day. Same as with pie, love a good pumkin pie. Course when it comes to pie, then pumkin hant my favorite. The ultimate one is mince meat pie, then strawberry rhubarb then pumkin. Lemon is also amongest the list of good pies. But I do not like pecan pie. That's yucks vill to me. For one thing, it's just to dang sweet, and don't care much for the taste of it neither. Some folks thrive on it, well they sure can have my share. Hope they are hungry, cause I eat lots.

Last night even though we did get a little snow. It still wasn't that cold out, matter of fact wasn't bad siting out on the porch. One thing I seen, was skitters. Now who would beleive here it is Mid November and there is still skitters out, and don't mind jabbing ya with those 4 foot long dull stinger they got neither. Just when ya tink you seen everthing, something else pops up.Just like the ducks at the pond. Guess it's to cold for them. Cause sure quack funny. Almost like they are quacking out the side of their lips. They hant going quack quack, all ya hear is mack mack. And the frogs they hant going ribit ribit, they to I think are croakin out the side of their lips. Cause they are going mibit mibit. Wonder what they will do when it does get and will get cold?

That bout does it from this part of the world. Hope your day is the best yet, with many more to come. Should you see someone with out a smile, give them one of yours. They cost nothing, yet are so priceless. Put a smile on your lips, happy thoughts in your head, and a twinkle in your eye. Ole hillie loves ya all.

Oh boy! First time I gotta set you straight. Pecan pie is the best thing in the world. It doesnt always have to to be so sweet. Maybe you just havent had good pecan pie! I forgive you for that. All this talk of pie reminds me of my grandmother may she rest in peace. She was like you in a way but instead of scraps of wood many folks put scraps of food away for her. She would bake lots of different things and set out to delivery them all around town. And again you reminded me of her with the comment about all kinds of cookies. When she baked many of the foods were new ground and had no names! Now my gma made lots and lots of pecan pie mainly cuz had a pecan tree in her yard. Hard not to think of pecan pie with out thinking of her. Fact is when she passed I picked up a pecan out of her yard tossed in grave before they covered it up. Have a good one

Since I'm from up where you are I wasn't cold, but the good ole southerboy who was dressed up in snow pants hat and gloves was huddled up on a rock shivering and mutttering- aint you COLD? Three hours later im still casting away giving the trout hell when he pulls off his glove and feels my hand and says how is it even possible that your HANDS are still warm!!!

Oh Hillie, I just knew you wouldn't leave things alone. Someone get me some popcorn, cause when phooooooo comes for you, and she will, its going to be a heck of a show. I'm sure these pictures here are just a preview.

Ann, those are beautiful pictures. And Beez, I can't imagine you without your sewing machine, so I sure hope you get it fixed. And Sherry, mmmm pecan pie. And I think its great you added a pecan to the grave. Its the simple gestures like that, which confirm just what that person meant to you.

Have a wonderful day one and all.

HillieJones Nov 18, 2008 7:21 pm
