it's important to want to sacrifice more chips on hands your pretty sure your the favorite ... and it's logical to want to sacrifice less chips on hands your unsure of... so ideally you would want to raise the blinds just a little more than your comfortable with especiallly in position.... remember people want to see a flop... so get as mych as you can outtta them pre flop.. instead of a say... standsard 3x big blind raise do say 4 1/2 times the big blind...plus this let's your opponent know you mean business.... and you definately want to win more chips when you win then when you lose ... that's the idea.... last but not least . in a tournament when i'm first to act after the flop and i catch high pair i bet. knowing that my opponent should know that i'm only supposed to hit the flop 1 outta 2 times .. so if you bet first your more probably going to get a check raise by somebody who thinks your bluffing... and then you trap em... good luck scottdogg

I have a problem with the difference between betting too much and scaring off opponents and notbetting enough and letting them darw outon me. Which is what usually happens. HELP ME.lol

well russdogg i've learned that table presence is monumental.... when you bet big on river and your opponenet folds they remember that and so does alot of other people at table... so if you establish yourself as a big better after a while they will begin to call you ... so again you want to make sizable pre flop bets.... and then do some magic if you catch flop... check raise whatever you want... gl hope it helps.... p.s. if you establish y ourself at table as a tight player then know they wont call your big bets cause they know you got it

why would you want to get as much out of them pre-flop. if you dont hit your hand on the flop then you have to fold most of the time. the idea is to get as much out of them as possible after the flop if you hit a big hand.

And someone recognizing your big river bet has nothing to do with your pre-flop raises. You cant figure out someones betting pattern pre-flop by what they did on the river...

I have to agree with cubbydwp. Your preflop raise should really only be an effort to narrow the possible hands that you are playing against and should be completely dependent on the table's general style. Post Flop is all about maximizing gain while minimizing risk.

this blog is referring to when you have a good preflop hand ace queen and up ..... and y es you do want to get as many people outta hand pre flop as you can... after flop if folks miss the flop their gonna fold...your;ll get the same money by betting big and battling say one or two people than you would betting average and having four people call you.. ..
