How to Go From 5m to 0 in 3 Hands!

Nov 17, 2008 11:06 am Report Abuse

First off I want to say, in case anyone was wondering, I finished in FTOPS event 24 today somewhere in the 2200s. No money, but I did score $40 in knockouts--not bad for a $6 investment.

Okay, so I am watching the FTOPS Main Event at the moment and boy did I ever see someone melt down ala Scotty Nguyen in the '07 Main Event. With 14 players left player KingKenneth was sitting pretty with over 5,000,000 in chips with blinds at 60,000-120,000. The average stack at the time was just over 2,000,000 chips. Then, these three hands happened.

KingKenneth stands up

You cannot blame him though for pushing with an ace with under 10 big blinds left.

And that's how you go from about 5 million chips to 0 in 3 hands.

They just reached the final table in the Main Event. No red names made it there this time. The last of the red names to survive was Nordberg who busted in 17th place.

I also want to congratulate skitmoney aka Stinky Budz for cashing in the Main Event and finishing in 339th place!

Good luck on the felt everyone!

That has got to hurt. It is one of those times where the player is just sick and wondering where the hell did my chips go.

As for your finish, that is a tough one but at least you got some knockouts, and some experience in the large games. I know for myself that first time playing a large buy-in tourny would have made me play so scared I wouldn't have had a chance to cash. Or maybe you played great and had a bad run, either way you came out ahead, so good job.

thats why you stay tight, and not get cute that late in the tny!!

Congrats on your finish, Bob, and an excellent way to look at it and not betting yourself up because you didn't actually "cash" ect.

As to that poor guy, I feel for him and am with Leavem....I'd have a sick feeling and just be at awe as to wth happened. I also agree with Rich.. that late in the game is not a time to get cute.

what a complete meltdown, looks like something I would do
Totenbach Nov 17, 2008 4:44 pm
Oh my. I'm sorry but I don't think that would happen to even me. I mean, I tilt and make loose plays sometimes. But that only normally happens after I get beat badly. I can't even fathom a day I would have played the first hand like that, so I would have never been in that position.

That is just beyond a Mattusow even!!! 3 hands in a row...wow! The third one, you're right, can't blame him..but wow!

I railed Budz for a bit. He was doing good. Glad to see he finished in the money!!! Awesome job Budz!!!! Way to Go!!!

Interesting to note that the two beneficiaries of this guys unfortunate play finished 2nd ($273k) and 3rd ($175k) while he cashed for a mere $18k. I think that would haunt me for a loooooong time.
