Does this sound completely crazy ?

Nov 17, 2008 1:10 am Report Abuse

In a tournament now and just getting towards the bubble so cruising along nicely with an above average stack so going deep could be a distinct possibilty.

The thing is, I've gone completely card dead. Nothing but nothing I can possibly play, the cards are that bad I'd be crazy to even contemplate sticking any chips in.

The stupid thing is its actually helping me, because were I getting semi decent hands AJ, 10 J suited etc I'd be chucking chips in the pot and no doubt losing them when I get raised...

So it may sound daft, but at the moment until I get short stacked or better hands, I seem to be better off getting garbage and making the decisions so much easier.

I run into that a lot. I usually get real conservative until the cards change again.

just be patient and cruise they'll swing your way, i would suggest playing AJ though

not crazy at all. go with it.

I am in 210th place. 1050 left in and they are paying out on 990... So easily going to get into the money its just trying to get to the top 100 when the serious money kicks in...

As long as I get some decent cards once I've passed the bubble I will be fine.

This could be my best result yet on PS in a big payout tournament.

Not crazy at all...sometimes the cards just aren't there. If you have decent position, and everyone in front of you has folded, if you haven't played a hand for a few orbits, you can try throwing in a standard raise with any two cards...if you haven't been playing, folks will figure you're just being really tight waiting to get in the money and must have picked up too good of a hand to sit on, so they'll fold unless they've got a monster. You can steal some pots that way if you're not too greedy and don't try it too often.

I had it like that the other night in a tourney. I had double average stack and was doing great making good reads and popping one after another, then it came. 40+ hands in a row with nothing. I mean nothing. The best hand I had was a J6c in the BB that got limped to me and I checked flopped 66J. YaY!!! I just waited it out, but it was SICK.

well this is where the FOLD button is your best friend, for I bet you played a few of those hands to get you there.

10 J suited its not a bad hand also... unless you get raised before your turn to speak.

i love going into "slo mo mode" late in a tournie and i love to watch me move up in standings by folding lol. i agre with you about garbage it does make decsions easier and you can always fold those with a clear concsience without thinking of yourself as timid

Poker is all about waiting. If you dont have the patience you might as well quit. Eventually the cards will start to come to you. And even then you'l experience terrible bad beats, but again if you dont let your self lose control of your game, the cards will come to you, and the chips will follow as well.

Was carddead yesterday for the first hour in the sunday 200G, didnt get far in that one though...

So, what happened in the end IAN?

cheese4life80 Nov 17, 2008 8:37 am

how did the tournament turn out

Fcumred Nov 17, 2008 11:12 am

Ended up winning $45..

Tried an all in semi bluff with a K high flush draw only to find my opponent was calling with the Ace high flush draw and when I hit my flush he hit his too..

Ouch - a painful ending, but you are right - folding hands when nearing the cash is often the best policy. Let the other players knock each other out.
