How does he do it?!

Nov 17, 2008 12:44 am Report Abuse

I've been watching clips of the older WSOP tournaments with Daniel Negreanu in them. His play style and ability to read people are ridiculous!

He just straight up knows what they have! Is it just on betting style alone? It's just hard to fathom being able to pay attention to what.. 6-8 other people at the table and still manage to read each of them.

Not to mention their were a few times were I swear I heard him say "I know you have AQ, I'm gonna call anyway." WTF!? lol

Can that stuff be learned?
It's beyond human like!

i dont think its hard to do if u play that many hands in certain situationes theres only a number of hands someone could have im sure youve guess what song was comeing on the radio next or what commercial or something

After playing with people for hours , sometimes even earlier if you've done what your suppose to be doing. You've felt out all of the players at your table.

By this time you should know, betting patters, player styles.

. aggresive, tight, superaggresive, etc.

That and you must have a good poker sense. Basically you need to be able to get inside the heads of your opponents. Think about all that you've learned untill this point from them. That way you know have a good chance of being right on the money when you make your decisions.

And yes it can be learned, but its all about practice, practice , practice.

Experience is the best tool in poker.

he has a sixth sense

He is just a good player that knows whats going on around him. You could do it do if you just pay attention to the other players.

Its a combination of many things. First all is the range of hands a player will play in the position he/she is in. Then there is the actions of the player(raise, call etc.) throughout the hand. Add in physical tells at each betting round and an experienced player can really narrow it down.

it can be scary at ttimes to hear him call a persons hole cards out like he had xray vision it can be learned if you concentrate on the people at tables (mostly live if possible) and can remember the way they play certian cards and how they react to your play when they have certain cards. and practice that cannot be stressed to much good luck and see ya later

By the time you get pretty far along in the hand, most of the really good players can narrow down another decent player's holding to just a few possibilities. You can get better at this with practice. You will find that some players you will be able to read very well after a while. The really great players are hard to read, because they mix up their play. The bad players are hard to read, because their bets don't make any sense in the first place. But the typical pretty good players tend to be rather predictable in their betting patterns. Some are so predictable that pretty much everyone at the table knows what their holding... Negreanu and some other players like to talk during the hand (not a good idea for most people). When he has a really good idea of what his opponent is holding, he'll go ahead and say what he thinks. I've heard him sometimes talk about three or four possibilities early in the hand, and narrow it down later. Hes really just saying out loud what any good player is thinking to himself during the hand. But when he's right, and nails the hand, it can really unnerve his opponents, and make them even more scared to play against him. Which is all part of the game!

Kidpoker is my favorite player. The problem he has is that even when he does know what someone is holding, he still calls with a losing hand. I think if he learns to lay down his hand and not let his curiosity get to him, he will win more tournies. GL!!

i don't think he's as good as he once was, but he's as good once as he ever was...lol

if i wear ever seated at a table with Daniel Negreanu, i think i would pissed my pants before the cards were even delt! LOL
hubby2s Nov 17, 2008 3:30 am

if you saw every hand he ever played, and made a guess...you would see, he is wrong alot more...everyone is.

but it makes for good TV if he can get a few right on tape..

tim4u Nov 17, 2008 3:43 am
larry1dart has a read on him,,,,he has called down many a hand just to get info
backgammon1 Nov 22, 2008 9:06 pm
He IS good. But I'm sure it took him a longggg time and a lot of practice to get that way. A heck of a talent probably didn't hurt any. But like with most pros, the dangerous hand are the ones against totally unpredictable amateurs which have knocked out more than one of them
