Yesterday while playing with my Railbirds friends, I was very distracted. My neighbor and good friend had informed me that her husband of many years had just died on Thursday from a long bout of illness. They had just found out on Monday that in addition to his Alzheimer’s he had an advanced case of leukemia that had gone undiagnosed.
He was a Rockdale County, Georgia Firefighter for many years.
While at the viewing today, I witnessed the changing of the guard by the Firefighters. They had a fire engine posted at the funeral home and according to Mildred, they will be performing special duties at his funeral tomorrow.
It was so moving to watch the formal changing of the guard while at the viewing and to see what great respect they were showing to a fallen member of their family.
I would like for any members of my railbird family that wish to post their comments on this blog. I will be printing it for her to see at a later date when the hurt of his passing is not so acute.
If you wish to send Mildred any thoughts please do so.
Thank you my railbird family.
