Heads up play (CM's view)

Nov 16, 2008 8:04 pm Report Abuse

Okay guys I haven't wrote a stratgey blog in a while but I figured I'd give it a go. Let me first start by saying I feel I'm probably one of the better heads up players on the site.

Okay so let me first start by answering common questions

1. Is it good to play every hand heads up? Nope its not.

2. Should I play every pair I flop? depends on the action and if its bottom or second pair or top pair

3. Is any ace good hand to play preflop? Nope some aces should be folded.

Okay let me explain each answer and why

I said no its not good to play every hand heads up. Well its just because if you are playing every pot you have to make tougher decisions and more plays to make it a break even situtation.

Well the next one depeneded on the action. Normally I go with the call and check fold the turn with medium and bottom pair. Top pair is a kicker game there if your kicker is good aggressively you should play, if its medicore play catiously. if its a trash kicker treat it like a medium to bottom pair.

the other was is any ace good preflop...I said no. Because weak aces get you into to much trouble when an ace flops you will think you are good because its heads up and get you busted more often then not.

Now I'm going to give some insight to what I do in heads up.

I play my BB tight folding more then calling. Because I'll be out of position after the flop and will be check folding to much.

my SB which is the button play. I'm super aggressive I raise almost every button. I'm in position so I'll be able to steal more pots then normal because I'll know if someone is interested in their hand or not.

Okay guys this was just a jump start to heads up I didn't go deep details about different things you'll face but I feel the purpose of this blog is to give you a guideline to start with, and to build off of. Hopefully this will help some of y'all.

Thank you . I always have a hard time HU. I seem to raise when not in good position, then find myself folding to a reraise. Etc...

I like to limp in and play my 72 os strong...just kidding lol . Good blog, i'm not the greatest at HU, i hold my own at about 75% win so any HU strategies areof interest to me. Gotta strive for that 90% or higher right!

mmm interesting to say, but I believe you aren't suppose to play your cards, but play the person here. Make them the ones to make the desiccions each and every turn thus disguising your hand and extracting every ounce of inforamtion possible. this gets you very close to putting that person on a hand and what card distribution they are willing to play.

Thanks for the info CM.. you know I think I might wanna set up a HU game for me and you.. It would be interesting to see how that turns out.
BigButt Nov 16, 2008 8:27 pm
Well there is only two positions here CM. force the issue or be forced to make a decission. Balls in your court.
CalculatedMove Nov 16, 2008 8:28 pm
Yeah there is only two positions...but in the BB you will be spewing chips off in the long run.
BigButt Nov 16, 2008 8:29 pm

More like tighetening there ars up thus stealing there chips till the call you with a monster, For you forced the action and know what they got.

CalculatedMove Nov 16, 2008 8:32 pm
Yeah but if they all of a sudden call you out of the blue you slow down say they fold 6 hands in a row and call you once well then they are losing chips.
BigButt Nov 16, 2008 8:42 pm

just for the one hand CM. I didn't say bet your normal 3x or better. Just raise them a bb. see, This forces them to play or get run over. thus being able to put them on a distribution of cards they are willing to play.

Heads up is small ball poker at its best.. Always raise. Force them to make the crutial decission of calling to donk off chips to fold.
