BAD BEAT?..read this (it's a must)

Nov 16, 2008 10:29 am Report Abuse

Before you read this mail ,I will please ask you all not to pm me with the 2 following questions :

1.Don't ask about the prize money?...how much I won?..etc

2. what 's your name ? (even if some of you might know me )

Thanking you all in advance.

Alright, here's the story.....had a live rebuy tournament yesterday (as every week-end)..with 147 players and 2 players left (including me) .As I'm always in the final table most of the time (95%)...and never won a tournament,I've made this one as a "must win" ,...not for the money but just to go to sleep and say k I won a live tournament.

At that time both have more or less the same amount of chips..I played this guy since we started the tourney and he played more than 95% of the times..calling every cards with crap hands but hitting unreal cards on river.I was playing (tight)

Dealing cards....I have Railbirds card: Tc Railbirds card: 6c the guy check...I bet 500000 chips ...he call .

Flop Railbirds card: 8cRailbirds card: ThRailbirds card: Kc ..he check and I bet half of my chips and he call (ok at that moment, I said to myself...may be he had a king) but during the all night every time he had a pocket pair or AK ,AQ or AJ he always raise or re raise 4/5 times the pot...and now ,he was just calling.

I can't explain ...but was sure at 100% that I have the best hand (Railbirds card: Tc Railbirds card: Th and going for a flush).

Now the turn...Railbirds card: 2d

I put all in,and he call me with..............Railbirds card: 5d Railbirds card: 2s

Now comes the river,..........and guess what ?

YESSS a Railbirds card: 5h

HE WON the tournament .......and I go back home again finishing 2nd

Ok that's just poker

I stopped reading after you said you had 10/6. No bad beat..........
bigword Nov 16, 2008 10:49 am
holly chit. i would have waited for the guy outside, lol.
woffice Nov 16, 2008 10:51 am
I have to disagree. It was a bad beat. He had the best hand pre-flop, the best hand after the flop and the best hand on the turn. This is heads-up, there's not much you throw away when it's down to two. If you were expecting to see nothing but premium hands at this point, you're going to lose a lot of tournaments.

Now to all you people who swear up and down that it only happens on-line ~~
CRAINT_DEGUN Nov 16, 2008 10:54 am
ok Big-Al..I do agree with my 10/6 but at that time he checked and I wanted to steal the pot by raising him as he always raise or re-raise with an ace or any figures...so I concluded that he did not have a good hand..even worst than me...so I took this opportunity to take the pot (well...was trying to )
CRAINT_DEGUN Nov 16, 2008 10:58 am

thats the point woffice ...you're right (well this is my opinion).

i got mixed feelings on this one. (playing 10 6) But you are at the final table heas up, so i must give you credit that your ability to read the table got you there. That in my opinion makes it a bad beat. All things must be considered when in a game. And I think we have to consider all things when commenting on a persons play. With that in mind, i say yep, sry dude, that sucks, it is for sure a bad beat, and I am sure you will win one of these soon. Good luck out there.
ammo12180 Nov 16, 2008 11:59 am
Sucks but if you're placing every week then that is something in itself. GL next week
CRAINT_DEGUN Nov 16, 2008 12:07 pm
yeah...I'm still thinking about it SiresnMe...This guy won most of his hand like that..I should have learn about it..may be it's an error made by me.
SiresnMe Nov 16, 2008 12:20 pm
well, his play is now burnt into your brain (LOL) its sounds like you play this tourney every week end, I am willing to bet he will never get you again.
CRAINT_DEGUN Nov 16, 2008 12:32 pm
LOL.....think I will need a good rest and some online poker with tons of bad beats ....just to forget that 1
xxxRISKYxxx Nov 16, 2008 12:38 pm
Heads up -- I feel that you played it perfectly -- all I can say is he is an a s s O for calling your all in, especially since you play tight and there was a K on the flop......... but go figure. As far as waiting for him outside ............ what was he drinking .... lol! I probably would have brought him a drink afterwards and congratulated him on his fine play -- yeah right. Fprget that I said that.... don't want to put any ideas in your head.
bigal7199 Nov 16, 2008 12:43 pm
Wow unreal its thats a shame you played that had VERY well. And trust me i know you are a strong player we played a tournent on stars nbsp;the other day. He just got lucky on the river dont sweat it man just go off to the next tournament GOOD LUCK and TC

This is just a reminder that you don't know how to play "Small Ball" and give bad table image I believe your open led them on to believe this is where you stand with two high cards and missed the flop with your second bet and shoved you all in. This was a lucky read on there part for you had middle pair and they had you coverd. Beside the Semi bluff on thier part that made the day.

Bad Beat? I say not, Bad poker. A resounding yes. might want to look into some heads up stratgy blogs before you continue on.

Just my opinion for you didn't have the nuts to call this Bad Beat. for trip K's would have been top dog and still would have won K's over 2's

woffice Nov 16, 2008 7:44 pm
Wrong, no and wow. (In reference to the above comment.)

Bad beat, yes. Almost a 19:1 dog.

Small ball? Exactly how long do you want to be heads-up? Yeah, let's just sit here for four or five hours while he tries to slowly bleed this guy's chips off him. No thanks. Keep the pressure on your opponent and force him to make a mistake. WHICH HE DID! Just because he got extraordinarily lucky, doesn't mean he didn't err.

What I want to know is what is it that you "experts" are admiring about calling a huge bet with zero hand and almost NO draw? I don't care how much "information" you give this guy credit for having amassed, there is NO justification for making that call. Even if he thought he missed. He knew that there was almost no chance he was going to win with high card. The ONLY way for him to win was to get lucky--TWICE. And you're asking our Mr. Degun here to play small ball with him? Sounds like a recipe for disaster to me. He played it right and lost anyway.

What did you want him to do, fold pre-flop? Eh, okay. But for what reason? That's not the worst hand in the world to see a flop heads-up with. Especially if it's in an un-raised pot. Then you wanted him to check the flop? Again, eh, okay. So the other guy could bet and he could fold? Nah. He hit and told the guy if you want to go any further, it's gonna cost you. Sorry, but I like the play. Yell, scream, cry foul. But I think he did the right thing.

Of course, this is my opinion. And I'm certainly no pro.
