ANY HELP WOULD BE GREAT

Nov 16, 2008 9:06 am Report Abuse

Hi birds,

I am playing a big tournament on Tuesday. I am tyring to remember all i have learned, and learn more.

I find myself feeling really confident. I am ready and i play the poker of my life! ANY and ALL advice will be heeded. I am new to this format. 10k starting stacks with 40 min. blinds. The first day plays down to the money. The second day is all about carpturing first place. Any hints, tips, links, advice, and ggood lucks, are all welcome. I plan on cramming my head with tournament strategy for my style. Watch myself for tells.

Then on Sunday night i will try to forget everything. Have a good relaxing day and party for the staff.

Work monday like nothing much is happening tomorrow. Go the River Rock on tuesday morning and play the poker of my life. After a good breakfast of course.

Represent the nest. tx...djgeter.

PATIENCE

play tight, play position, when you think you are ahead or you can get them to fold be aggressive.
Onadar Nov 16, 2008 9:25 am
don't change a thing, whatever got you there in the first place. confidence and good starting hands, don't get chasing in the early rounds. if some idiot lets you see a free cards and your chasing str8 or flush don't be a hero and take it. just think while playing, if he gives you a card why? don't over think first reaction is usually the best , if you think you are beat fold. good luck railbirds rule the felts, or was that magic hmmm.

listen to my instincts, position...position...position, and patience.

relaxed

xxIcemanandoxx Nov 16, 2008 11:22 pm

make sure you drink plenty of water....but you need to time it for breaks so that you dont miss hands and table actions.

dont drink energy drinks....you will fizzel out by the end of the day.

have a range of clothing.....it could be cold, warm whatever be ready and comfortable.

and rememeber have fun, stay focused on the hand in play and if you need to take a small note pad and write stuff down thne do it, I think of it like taking player notes online.......it works and its a good thing to read when on a break.

plan what you will do in the breaks....lots of people will get up from the table then the break starts and wonder around looking and trying to decide what to do....get in and do what you know you need to do. Then you can relax for a few mins and recharge....you will want to it takes alot out of you to sit there all day...I've done it more than a few times.

but most of all have fun look at the good things that are happening not the bad beats etc thats when you will perform they way you want not what the table wants from you.

good luck mate hope this helps, your a great player belive in yourself......I've seen you play you know what your doing so just play and be ready for they day.

You don't need any advice, DJ.

You've got the game. Stick to your plan and enjoy yourself.

Keep to the basics, ABC poker till you get a good read on everyone at your table. Then start by positional betting. Weigh chip stacks and keep patient. This will start off as a boring event minus the aggressive players trying to double up early. Keep track of them. You will know who they are. Most of all, easy on the water. Good Luck with that.

I agree with PATIENCE... A good fold is just as good as a good win at times.

Good Luck!!!

Don't worry about it. You already know how to play, just keep your focus tight and you'll do fine. Avoid eye contact and breathe. Concentrating on your breathing relaxes you and could keep you from giving off tells related to your breathing patterns.
Thundex Nov 16, 2008 11:48 pm
Just be patient and wait for your hand!
gorden71 Nov 16, 2008 11:56 pm
Stick to your game. Ive played with you, the skill is already there. Good luck DJ.

I saw this one mistake made over and over during the WSOP broadcasts.

People see others at their table with massive stacks and start feeling a need to "force the pace" and try to catch up to these stacks. Then they shove with a hand like pocket 7s for 20 or 30 Big Blinds.

Be aware of how much the standard raise is at your table, and don't feel the need to shove if you have enough to make this raise and still have 80% of your chips in front of you.

First of all, congratulations on getting there. Secondly, I've lost count of the number of times I've qualified for big games and gone out quickly purely because I'm still on a high from the previous game and feeling invincible. Same as Onadar said, you know how to play, just keep doing it. GL.

I was there about 2 months ago & left there up $850 for 2 hrs work at the $50 PAI-GOW table, hehe. If not workin & in the 'hood of Richmond I will stop in-listen for a loud "DJ"...it'll be me.

The best advice I can give ya is...The doors on the right of the card room lead to the buffet

paulshelly Nov 17, 2008 12:22 am
Play your hand. Take your time and play what you have. Good luck.
Wiartonwillie Nov 17, 2008 1:30 am
no advice just good luck!!!!!!
Scotteh99 Nov 17, 2008 1:44 am
best advice I can give take your time! Plus remeber the goal at first is to get to the Money then to move up in the money ranking then fianl table and then move up the final table... to many try to win the tourment with one hand that won't even get them in the money... once the blinds are big and you have show your style to the others that the time to pick on the small stack<<<< small stack I said they can take you out isolate them when you can and hope for the BB and SB special to put you in position to break some small stacks and of course cripple a few large stack your size.. but you know this but it's good to hear it again and again... maybe to help you out right out on a piece of hard cardboard your first goals of making money then moving up and other things to remind you of how you should be playing without emotion eh! good luck and bring the Canadian Bacon home eh!
