POCKET ACES

Nov 15, 2008 1:52 am Report Abuse

IS THERE ANY CIRCUMSTANCES EVER THAT WOULD MAKE FOLDING POCKET ACES PREFLOP A GOOD IDEA?

Preflop? Not that I can think of.

Yes if you are in a double or nothing tournament and you can't improve your position or if you are in a satelite tournament late where the top 9 get a seat and someone who is desperate might be able to luck out and bust your aces.

I don't think I would even consider the thought.

Let's say you're playing in one of those double or nothing SnGs at pokerstars. Six players left, two of them go all-in.
Or a sattellite, were X number of players gain the entry. If you have a comfortable sized stack there's no need to risk it if someone comes over the top of you...

Only under circumstances where the potential of winning with them is overwhelmed by the risk presented by losing. Pretty much applies to tournaments only - if you're on the bubble or otherwise can lose by busting out but gain relatively little with a win on that specific hand. Especially true, as noted above, if you're on the verge of qualifying in some sort of satellite and there's no difference between finishing first and clearing the bubble.

Here's another situation where I lay down AA preflop.

Final table, three players left. Player 1 has 3.5 million chips. Player 2 has 3.6 million chips. I just got stacked and find myself in the big blind with about 105,000 chips. The blinds are 50,000 and 100,000. Player 1 goes all in preflop, and player 2 calls. I have to double up quite a few times here going all in with any two cards to even have a chance at taking first. My best strategy is to play for second. I fold AA in this spot and hope that player 2 wins the hand.

Apparently I should have folded AA in tonight's "Ohio" freeroll on Poker Stars, though. I caught rockets on the second hand of the tournament in the big blind and raised to 4xBB with them. Got one caller, the flop came down Axx with two clubs, and the caller shoves after I make a continuation bet. Of course I call. What do you suppose he has? Right, J8 of clubs, and he completes his flush on the river.

I recently folded AA with a medium stack at bubble time to 2 allins, one with more chips than I had and the other with less chips. The bubble got popped, and so would have I, if I called there, when big stack had KK and hit the K on flop. I went on to get to the FT and took 4th. It's all situation for me.

never fold them.. your favrioute your just going to have to accept the bad beats when they come but your making a mistake if you fold with the best hand
bjohn13 Nov 15, 2008 2:32 am
These last two scenarios are "results oriented" situations. Just because you lost or would have lost doesn't mean you should have folded.

LIKE I SAID and was repeated! You got to factor in these situations but its my favorite hand wins 7-10 on Pstars and 6-10 on Ftilt.

Fcumred Nov 15, 2008 6:48 am

Yeah I can think of a case when you should fold AA. When you are playing IDIOTS like this..
