No straights in Omaha?

Nov 14, 2008 8:25 pm Report Abuse

Hi.

Second level on tonights HORSE freeroll we are on Omaha H/L - which I have never played before. I was just knocked out... no big deal, but I am a little confused regarding the hand I lost all my chips with. I am dealt A235 and a 4 comes on the flop... great... the betting goes crazy and by the last betting round I'm in for 900 chips - with a 4 way pot I am happily waiting for them to cvome my way,

Very odd then that the winners (split pot) won with 2 pair.... doesn't my straight count in Omaha?

no because you need to only use 2 cards and you used more

Same thing would have happened to you if you held, say, four hearts and a fifth came on the board.

In Omaha, your hand is the best combination you can make with two of your cards and three of the board's. That's why the worst hand in Omaha is four deuces -- it can't be improved -- and why getting all four aces is also a pretty bad hand.

Its true in Omaha you can only use two cards from your hand with three cards on the board. To make a qualifying low hand you also must use two cards from your hand with three on the board, it may be the same two cards you are using for the high or two different cards.

Oh yes and to make a low hand in omaha h/l, you must have five cards eight or lower with no pairs in that five card combination using two from your hand and three from the board

haha.. ok I vageuly recall hearing that... I should have gone to the ft ite to check how to play each game type....lol

I once entered a razz no limit tourney by mistake... when the first hand was dealt I panicked and quickly rushed to the site to see what the hell is razz. Meanwhile I just 'did a freeroll' and went all in.... by the time I had read the rules of the game I was chip leader with 5.200 chips... got paid in the end too.... but that doesn't work with limit lol.

Anyway thanks for the heads up - if you'll pardon the pun

Have to pay attention too! I am playing several games and didn't adjust to the new level and lost 1/2 my stack playing the nuts razz hand..... in stud!
