Obviously playing a freeroll your gonna get a bunch of dummies. Most of the time anyway. So all you have to do is play Solid poker, just sit and be patient.

The players your gonna be playing are not prone to folding, they like to call , call , call. They dont know any better lol. SO take advantage of that.

Dont worry about getting bluff happy or calling with moderate hands. Just be patient and wait for the big ones. I guarentee you will get calls.

Exactly. Be patient. Be super patient.

Yep... I agree...

I think I agree with Hugoballin. Sit back and be patience. But then again, I've pretty much given up on playing freerolls. To much time for very little payout.

Sounds like you do well in them though. Best of Luck to ya!

play loose at first to try to double or triple your stack for the first hour or so. Then sit back and be patient and play your game. thats my adviceRailbirds card: AdRailbirds card: As

Sounds like you made up your mind in the last line of the post. I'll be there at your table hoping I have a real hand when you push and pray.
aprilmichelle Nov 14, 2008 5:48 pm
just sit back and wait for the big hands. Everyone is right you will always have someone call.
LuluMay Nov 14, 2008 5:58 pm
You can win a free roll either way, but you will have more long term success if you play tight and patient. If you get a big stack that is when you can start to bully people a little bit.
Fcumred Nov 14, 2008 6:07 pm

My tip for freerolls is do EXACTLY the opposite to what everyone else is doing

If they are playing tight then play loose, and if they are playing loose you play tight..

patience and willingness to risk early with strong cards has helped me cash several times. Patience is better served towards the later part of the tourney. Once the donkeys have either been knocked out or identified!
TeaBaggins Nov 14, 2008 6:08 pm
ALL-in every hand and donk a 4 card flush or runner runner straight thats what most seem too do. Serious note flop a big hand pushand be surprised how much you will get paid off. Play patient solid poker and have luck at the end when mostly it becomes an all-in fest because of blind structure of most freerolls.
atm808 Nov 14, 2008 6:10 pm
You just have to be patient. Realize that your not going to be able to push people off of marginal hands, so stay away from the stone cold bluff. I try to stay away from races and that usually gets the job done.
Zync99 Nov 14, 2008 6:12 pm

I don't agree with the push and pray. But do agree with patience, patience, patience. You have to make your big hand pays. You will be sucked out for sure from time to time, but when your hand holds, you will win a big pot that will enable you to still be patient for the next big hand.

If you are able to stay alive for the first 2 hours of the tourney, you have to then consider where you are : short or high stack. Short stack you'll need to double up quickly and big stack, you can breathe

One last advice : it's not because this is a freeroll that you need to play donk poker and go all-in with ATC. If you spot a player that does that, try to stay away unless you have a big hand (unless you want to seek for an other freeroll in case of losing at showdown). This is always frustrating to lose AQ against an all-in player that goes for the good with 8-3 offsuit and hits his 3 on the river...

i dont push my luck early...i used to set a chip count for myself for each hour of play...after 1 hr....id like to be at between 3 and 4 thousand chips...i wouldnt worry about what the chip leaders were doing..and id watch my playing percentage in the stats....if i was seeing more than 25% of the flops... id slow down. the way i figured it...if i was patient and didnt chase str8s, id move up slowly. ive won plenty of tournaments in the past 5 yrs online by having a high percentage of wins per hands played even at 25% or less action.hey, there will always be players who suckout on you but keep playing premium hands and mix up the aggression now and then...bruce

play Phil Hellmuths top 10 hands and push when you get one. Worked for a guy I know and he actually ITM 4 out of 4 and took 2 of them down. I like to play super tight until the antes kick in and then I am usually short stack unless some donk called me when I had in dominated. but usually you are short stacked when you get to the antes playing super tight. But thats my advice.

I have cashed on more freerolls than I can count, won several, and this last Sunday, took down $300.00 in a $1,000.00 one, so I might be able to help.
First, cashing and winning in freerolls is not a walk in the park, but there are some things that can be done to increase your odds of winning.
The first thing that one has to understand is that because these are freerolls, you will run into a great many fish and donks that have the any 2 cards can win mentality, have their finger on the trigger, and can't wait to go all in. The freerolls that run the most frequent on pokersites have the greatest number of these players. The Afterdark series on Fult Tilt is one of the worst I know of.
The regularly scheduled freeroll on the poker rooms like I've mentioned are best advised to be avoided, because the time you'll put in to them are not worth the reward.
There are some freerolls that are put on by the poker rooms that can be worth playing, but usually have a large field of players,so I recommend being selective and choose the ones with the greatest rewards.
The other types of freerolls are privately sponsered freerolls, such as here, they are much better, and nearly every poker forum has them. It is smart to seek out the highest paying ones with the least competition.I played in one about a month ago that had a $500.00 purse and only 83 entries. I won $40.00.
The easiest way to find these are by the poker rooms themseves. Go through the private tournies and join the sponsering forum. Most only require you to join in order to play in the freerolls.
There are a lot of sites out there that circumvent this process by publishing private tournament passwords, but I recommend NOT go this route, because most rooms have policies that will ban your account and keep all your money. One other word on this, if you look around, there is so much free money offered online that requires little effort to qualify to play in the tournies that it just isn't worth the risk to steal passes, not to mention the moral issue.
Once you find the games worth playing, you'll need a bit of a strategy. Realize that there are still going to be donks and alot of fish suck outs because of the very nature of these games and these players are most prevalent in the early levels of the game. The best strategy is to play only the top 16 ranked starting hands and expand that to 24 in the late positions if you can limp in. Avoid all in confrontations unless you have a big hand. You need to play very tight and aggressive, and initiating the all in move only serves to put your seat at risk, so use it very, very sparingly. I have seen very few situations that really justify the all in move preflop. The idea is to survive the early levels and not to play at the same level as the donks and fish. Pick your spots to play and play them carefully.
Once the tourney advances and the field thins out, the donks and fish become less of a threat. Then it's all about playing solid tournament poker.
The other tip I have found works is playing shear numbers. I've played thousands and thousands of freerolls and play probably 40 or more a day when I'm playing them. It does 2 things: It gives me more opportunity to cash and is a great training tool.
The last tip I'll leave you with is to get a scheduling software, so that you can schedule the many freerolls you want to play in an organized format. One that will notify you when a schedule freeroll approaches.
Hope it helps you and good luck

call as many big blind bets as posible early

try to catch a few donks

try for 10k then slo down ; tighten up

don't bluff until the blinds are high

aim for the bubble wait till ur in th blind ; then donk

in other words ; change ur play

play late positions where the big blind has not been raised

if u follow these tipsthen you will probably lose just like me

if we were pros ; we wouldn't be here

we'd be at the casinos

gud luk ; you will need it follow my advice

Wuzzle... Thanks for the great advice. Seeing as how I'm trying to build my bankroll off of free roll wins (no such luck as of yet) this should help out tremendously. I usually try to play tight and the times that I have been successful in getting deep into the tourney, I haven't had the skills to make it to the money. Though I have learned from my mistakes of busting out early and late in the tourneys and one of these times I'll make it to the money. Playing tight solid poker is the way to go though. You can fold every hand and bust out in the low 100's on Full Tilt s $100 freerolls.
