Can somebody please look at this hand..donk call??? SICK???

Nov 14, 2008 10:34 am Report Abuse

I feel like I played this hand well. Considering the opponent. He had been playing fairly tight for the 30 mins I had been at the table. When the 9 came on the turn...I seriously doubted he played a 9. He had only been playing high pp, AK, or AQ. He had also been caught on a couple bluffs. not only that but his bets were coming out as soon as it was his action. Almost instintanious. So I figured its either strength or a bluff. I figured if he had a beast...Why would he be betting so high? Wouldn't most people slow play on a beast hand? So I put him on AK, AQ, or a simple bluff. When you see the hand history you might think it was a donk call. Against almost anybody else...it's a fold. Let me know what you think??? Any suggestions???? Be honest. Was it a sick call or a donk call???

1/ you should have re raised big after flop to get rid of the flush draws ..check to begin ok. (obviously I would have been like you caught but, trips catch everyone)

2/ as for call on flop, he was beating you with a straight flush, four 9's, full house, flush, straight or pocket pair making trips. you should have let it go you only had 2 pair.

3/ If he had been playing tight but had been caught stealing before, then I would have put him on flush after the river (betting on draw previously hoping to win without having to catch) so I would have had to have folded.

Sorry I don't think you played hand well calling on river, my way would have been all in earlier, so I would definately lost all my chips, but you had an out after the river and didn't take it.

From the way you described the situation, it sounds to me like you made a read and stuck with it, and it worked out for you. Although your two pair was not necessarily that strong with that board, if your read tells you you probably have the best hand, then you have to go with it. You got max value from the hand, since you eventually got all-in, and I don't see anything wrong with the way it played out. You could have maybe raised his bet on the flop or turn to see where you are, but then he most likely would have folded and you would have made less, so in hindsight, calling him down turned out to be the most profitable play. You have to play the player, as well as the cards, and the only way to test your reading ability is to make reads and follow through with them to see how accurate they are. In this case, you caught him on a stone cold bluff, and if that was how you read it, then you played it perfectly fine. Too bad he left the table after the hand, you probably could have bled him some more.

sorry read it wrong having trouble with it not having card pictures, I thought he had quad 9's sorry for the miss reading but I would say it was still a bad call after river, and bad play post flop.
