Double or Nothing SNG tables on Stars

Nov 13, 2008 2:13 am Report Abuse

Hi All

Just curious your thoughts on if it makes sense to grind out the double or nothing tables on stars.

I've worked out the break even point of both the turbo and non turbo game.

you need to win (come top 5) in 52% of the turbo games you play to break even.

you need to win (come top 5) in 54% of the non turbo games you play to break even.

What do my fellow railbirds think?

A good player will make money at these over time...but S L O W L Y. And a bad run of luck could put you behind for a while...and it will take a while to catch up. If your goal is to grind it out and build your bankroll bit by bit, I think you would do better sitting in ring games, either limit or no-limit, and playing a solid, tight, conservative style...I think you'd make money faster. It still takes a lot of patience, either way. I think the danger of playing a lot of the double or nothings is that they essentially work like satellites. So you don't get a lot of experience in trying to win; you're gearing your game to survive the bubble. Proper strategy in these games is different from a graduated payout tournament. So if you're planning on entering a bunch of satellites to win seats in bigger tournaments, these would probably be good practice. If you want to work on your regular tournament game, avoid them.

Ive played em and I love em. I won about 80% of em. The play is generally sorry and as long and as you pick your battles pretty decent...you'll cash.

OK, to break even you need to place in to top 50% half the time. So the questions is, do you place in the top 33% on a normal 9 person often enough to break even or better? I found that I'm just below the break even on the Double or nothing games ...

I have been using them to tighten up my game. I found that after a good run and some bankroll building, I've have been playing to loose and trashed all my work. They have there use. Just my opinion.
