Does it ever get any better?

Nov 12, 2008 6:58 pm Report Abuse

I hate to hear bad beat stories as much as the rest of ya. But, I get AK suited clubs. So, I raise 5X the BB in late pos. I get 1 caller flop comes 4h 5c 6c. I bet pot. he goes all in. I call he called me with 78 clubs. Guess what comes on the river. Done guessing.? Yes 9 clubs. I hit nut flush. He spike a straigh flush. LOL I give up.

why would you call his all-in on flop? you had nothing...

A lot of people mistake AK for being a really top hand...and dont get me wrong it's a strong hand, but people give it way too much credit. My advice would be to play a little more conservatively with this hand. At best your a coin flip with someone, just a thing to keep in mind

How many limpers were in pot before you raised? What were this players tendencies? What was your image like? What position was the caller in? What were your stacks like? If you post a hand history, you'll get much better advice. And if you chop off the hand history at the point of decision, the advice will get even better.

Just from your description, it sounds pretty standard. Especially if you've been playing tight, and he can put you on a narrow range, and especially if the caller had position on you. If your stacks were deep enough, you may have been able to get away from this, but for 100BB, it's a clear call. Most of the time you'll have 15 good outs, and even if you're up against a set or straight, you'll have enough equity to call. Against his exact hand, you got your money in bad, as a 4:1 dog, but against his range you're probably about 40-45%

I don't think either one of you misplayed this hand, it's just a cooler. And to answer your question: No, it never gets better. Poker will always have coolers and bad beats. Actually, the game couldn't exist without them. Hope this helps, and better luck next time.

heres an adjustment, 5 times the blind is high try betting less that way u wont feel obligated calling him with A high on flop when he goes all in!i use to overbet my good hands preflop too but i think its wrong to do so ,most of the times!u gotta go with ur reads on the flop ppl will call with 34 its about placing them on a hand

The benefits of betting less is seeing cheaper flops, and more flops are seen!2 u can fold if u dont connect and if ur getting called by weaker hand u have crushed ull get more value!
