Poker Assist Tools: Opinions?

Nov 10, 2008 12:39 am Report Abuse

I, along with probably many other people, have heard of programs that assist a player playing poker, very often whilst that game is being played. I personally have heard of the Hold 'Em Genius program from a helpful Poker advisor named Roy Rounder.

I'm curious to know people's opinions on these programs as a whole. I understand that some are banned on sites like Full Tilt and Poker Stars, that some are useful for holding data (I plan on downloading Poker Tracker fairly soon) and that some are not banned but clearly provide an advantage to a player.

My personal view is that I do not like them. Even if I knew they'd give me an advantage, I feel that I as a person would prefer it if I learnt these kinds of things on my own. I guess I'd just feel "dirty" if I used one!

Which are people's favourite programs? Has anybody begun using one and stopped since? Why not have a discussion?

I downloaded the free version of the holdem inicator, and immideatly got a warning from pokerstars. found out that you have to start it first and then load PS. It was the trial version and could only be used for " free " money games. I couldn't even get it to work so I deleted it.

I would love to use a tool that figures the outs and odds for me but do good without it so ....

I wont be trying any more.. geuss I will just have to do my own figures.

Peace,

I play live quite a bit and don't use any of the available tools because if I begin to depend on them for information, what would I do when playing live?

I did download a free version of Poker tracker and it seems to be great software if you know how to use it and take the time to use it to your advantage. I also completely screwed up with this download and it uploaded all of my PAST games instead of one's I was getting ready to play, so it really did me no good other than to look into some of my habits, which I am sure I exhibit live as well as online.

I think as far as using the softare, there are some that are borderline cheating, but there are some good one's that actually help with your game.

GL on and off the felt...

Pokertracker is good for the sites they are linked to. I have it and use it only for multitableing. Well worth the investment. But if you are exclussivly fulltilt. I believe something called spadeit is up your alley, mind you of this for I have from reliable sources. If you even have it running on tilt and try to play stars. You just lost your stars account. So I would stick with PT3. They have a trial period and also give you PT2 along with acehud till pt3 services all there sites.

Ohhh yeahh.. the free version of this Holdem indicator is for play money only.

Playing it with play chips has given me a better understanding of my odds and also the way other opponents are playing.

You think you need during play? Stop playing!

For evaluation purposes it is ok with me, but 4 that only.

Dont use anything but my donkeybrain, probably that is why i suck at poker...

akaClint, I think you think about it the same way as me!

But I love statistics; I'll probably use it just to keep records of every single hand.
