Was this a stupid move and should i just fold QQ at this point?

Nov 7, 2008 8:46 pm Report Abuse

Just curious. 6 players left, five get paid $20

It's obvious that i got unlucky but there was no need to be in that position.

As u can see one guy has to go in this sng and he wouldn't be able to pay his blinds but I thought that with those blinds I was safe.

Just like to have ur opinions here.

Txs in advance.

Not stupid play at all. You can wait until the other player busts or doubles, before playing a hand. If theshotstack doubles, then you are forced to pretty much shove any A, any decent suited connectors, or any PP. You got the hand to shove with as you only have 3 BB left, so can't wait too much longer. Just got the Pokerstars suckout river card.
whoareyou Nov 7, 2008 8:51 pm
that is sick
snoopy1dan Nov 7, 2008 8:52 pm
That is a tough question, I would have done same.
Paladin Nov 7, 2008 8:55 pm

I agree with above, you couldn't wait much longer and chances are you aren't going to see a better hand than that before you're blinded out. You can fold in hopes that the other short stack goes before you do, but there's no guarantee that's going to happen either. I think it was the right play.

sellittologan Nov 7, 2008 8:58 pm

100% bad move, with a stack shorter than yours and 5 getting paid, i am assuming this is a double or nothing, and in these you fold to cash, just like a satty....bad bad move

chapeltuno Nov 7, 2008 9:00 pm
You did right! Sometime poker is not fun bigtime!
chapeltuno Nov 7, 2008 9:02 pm
That is if 5th place is only $20 and the other place pay substancially more! If all the places pay only $20 which I don't think was the case then you fold.
20_lb_stack Nov 7, 2008 9:05 pm
I'd say looks like a cooler to me, you're short, have a made premium hand and played it as strong as you could.
rogabee Nov 7, 2008 9:06 pm
I'd have pushed too. You can't wait forever...plus if the short stack doubles up then you're left out in the cold. Give yourself a chance to win after you get to the money.
PapaPower Nov 7, 2008 9:13 pm

This is a double or nothing. You're not playing for 1st place here.

Blinds are coming up on the short stack and he will be forced to act.

Best to sit back and let someone else put you in the $$

Pyromaan Nov 7, 2008 9:18 pm

Txs for the comments guys.

It stinks that I will never know what would've happened if I decided to wait and see lol.

I think that there's something to say for both decisions here.

Well, next hand pleazzzzzzzzzzz lol

Have a nice profitable weekend.

It all depends on the structure. You played correctly for a regular payout tournament. But if this was a Pokerstars "double or nothing" SNG, which I believe from your description it was, then you should have folded pre-flop. Battmeister, the short stack, is 2 hands away from the big blind, which is pretty much going to put him all in (well, he'll have 5 chips left after posting the ante and the big blind). So all you need is for him NOT to get lucky in the next two hands. The odds are definitely in your favor for that, so sit tight and hope he busts! If you were the short stack, you'd move here of course...but with the short stack getting blinded off ahead of you, sit tight and let the others take him out. Actually, the best strategy for everyone else is to wait for the short stack to move all in...and then EVERYONE CALL. That maximizes the chance that the short stack will get eliminated and put everyone else in the money. This strategy is ONLY correct for an even payout tournament, where all the prizes are the same...in a regular tournament with a varied payout structure, you push with the queens.
JKravat Nov 7, 2008 9:23 pm
Personally here I fold in a double or nothing. The big stack at the table is in the BB and is easily priced in. You fold here the other guy to your right has to make a move very soon or blinds out. The reason for me here is my QQ has gotten busted everytime in these, big stacked or short stacked. LOL!!! You are on bubble here too with an extremely short stack at table to your right.
2BEARS Nov 7, 2008 9:23 pm

yes it was a stupid move for wigzag.Donkey chased it to da river

bryan24 Nov 7, 2008 9:24 pm

If I have AA here I also fold. There is no need for you to play until forced to do so. In the double or nothings 5th pays the same as first, it doesnt matter how you got to this situation. However now that u are in it, let the other guy go all-in first and bust. If he /she does not bust then you are forced to play. Really only one play here... FOLD!!!!!

mikey8185360 Nov 7, 2008 9:31 pm
u got unlucky i would have done the same
julyangels Nov 7, 2008 9:34 pm

Hold for the money...especially against the shorter stack.

gl next time eh ~july

Pyromaan Nov 7, 2008 9:46 pm

Yes dragon it as a Pokerstars "double or nothing" SNG.

@2Bears: I disagree calling wigzag a donkey here, why wouldn't he call?

Even against AK he wasn't in that bad shape and if he looses so what. My few chips wouldn't bother him that much. He had the chips to do it.

I prolly shouldve just folded here indeed even with AA and wait and see if Batt was about to get lucky or not. Even if he did I would have that same chance too.

You need to shove here... unfortunately you've allowed yourself to get this short, limiting your fold equity. Why people call with something like 2-2 in this spot is pretty stupid (but you see all kinds of it online.. super loose calling ranges,.. earlier in the game, look to see who will make such calls and alter game accordingly). Maybe you had recently taken a bit hit to your stack but it is better to be pushing allin when your stack is still of a decent size, giving you fold equity and putting your opponent to a decision (in most cases, they will need JJ or better to call.. maybe even AA KK if in bubble situation and they are not short and hot huge)
