Just wanna know why....

Nov 7, 2008 11:44 am Report Abuse

OK, Yes I am going to complain about a bead beat~ I RARELY do.

But I wanna know something.................

**VERY 1ST HAND! of a $2, 6-plyr SNG. Now, giving ya brief hand history.

blinds 15/30

I raise with Railbirds card: AhRailbirds card: Ad to 90, with a fold, call from the dealer, call from SB and a re-raise to 510 by the BB. I push back all in. With a call from the dealer, SB folding and BB calling. THREE players all-in on first hand.

Dealer turns over Railbirds card: 3hRailbirds card: 9h

BB turns over Railbirds card: QcRailbirds card: Qs

I have of course, have my money all-in pre-flop with the best hand Railbirds card: AhRailbirds card: Ad

Check out the cards on the table.............

Now, yes, I know this is poker and bad beats happen plentiful....but how does someone go, ALL-IN with 3-9 sooooooooooooooted? Pre-flop? On the very first hand? And beat two good quality hands..................

Sometimes, I just don't get it.

You probably played enough freerolls or low buy-in tournaments to answer that questions for yourself. But some people are determined to win with any two cards. If not, then they just move on to the next tournament. No big deal to them. IF they get lucky, they can use their big stack to bully the table. Or simply keeping pushing their luck and donk completely out. You never know with them. And that's why they're dangerous.

But one piece of advice I will give you, is that AA is only a pair. If there are too many other players in the pot, and you don't improve, you probably are going to lose the hand. Even though you had the best starting hand, it was the first hand of the tournament and completely acceptable to lay down. There'll be other opportunities.

I find that in most of the tournaments I play, there's a "donk stage" that you have to get through before you get to play "real poker". Learn to navigate it and you'll go deep. Maybe not as far as you'd like. But that will come too.

Just my opinion. Good luck!

LOL DONKAMENTS...

You did nothing wrong, you just got really unlucky. I have to agree with you though, what is he doing with 3/9? I'm guessing b/c it suited, lmao.

Just stick to solid TAG poker, and you'll be fine.

Well, depending on the "donks" bankroll, its just $2..., virtually a freeroll, could he care?

The Woffice is right for all he said...

Sorry 4 you, bad luck..., and i wouldnt have folded AA neither (at this level)

Better Luck next time and make sure to take notes on him!!!!

It's for that reason that I hate getting big hands like aces and kings really early on in a tourny or sng. Later on, at least most of the donks are gone, and you can usually pick up the blinds or maybe be in against one player which is where you want to be. Early on, everbody thinks you're just being a donk and going all-in with anything and you end up getting called by 2-3 others and end up losing to some crap like that.

I commiserate with you. At least the donk had 2 live cards. In my blog (bad beat and a half) the donk on had 1.

ripdale3 Nov 7, 2008 3:53 pm
DAMN!!! That sux pinkk. But I know you and I know you will bounce back from this, Let fool tilt and the donks that saturate it be what it is. Those of us that take pride in our game will win more often then they do.

I hear ya crystal...I blogged about this exact thing (pocket A's FIRST hand) yesterday and got different points of view...not much you can do I guess...I feel your pain and frustration...The ultimate decision I need to get my head around is laying down the monster if I want to stay in!!!!! Shake it off and get 'em in the next! Good luck!
