Password Thieves situation, not going to be resolved

Nov 6, 2008 3:42 am Report Abuse

Hello all, I know there is a lot of talk about the new password situation and password thieves. The route that railbirds are taking i dont think will help the site for these reasons. If u agree then say so and maybe the admin will think of a better solution.

1. By restricting members of railbirds from playing railbird freerolls will only mean this. Railbirds will go to the so called password thief sites and get the passwords there. Now where is the logic in that? Driving your own members towards the sites you dont respect and giving them more traffic.

2. The forums, blogs and boards will now be cluttered with even more rubbish posts. People simply posting to try get passwords and not even having one good thing to say. I like to read the blogs as im sure a lot more members do, but now it will be a case of trawling through rubbish to find anything worth reading or commenting on. This doesnt make for a better site in my opinion.

3. So just to add, By driving your own members to other sites to find passwords defeats the whole purpose of your actions and another resoution should be found. I personally dont mind who plays in what games, once im there and having a game im happy, but all you get at the railbird tourneys now is abusive members ranting away, and some of it totally uncalled for. This certainly does shine railbirds or its members in a good light and defeats from the game of poker.

Please find an alternative, so if others agree post their views and ideas.

kind regards

Thin Lizard

i completly agree with you... im not too active of a member and not that active of a poker player... i have my week or two where i play then i might not for a month or two.... its nice to always be able to come here and have something to look forward to and now i dont know if i will be able to get the passwords to these events because i dont post enough...
Wh1zzy Nov 6, 2008 3:53 am
you just showed you totaly and utterly misunderstood the purpose of this site About your first point, NO true railbirds get passwords because they are ACTIVE. About point 2, The only people posting so called "rubbish" are the people that are desperate trying to apply to the new rules, most of those boards are about how bad the new rules are. You know? i have been a member for JUST 4 weeks and have no problem getting any password, i have gone from green to pink without even breaking a sweat. You know what those new rules gonna do? make sure railbird tournaments will be played by the real railbirds. The only ppl that are going to the password sites are the ones giving our passwords to them because they need to tell they can not get any passwords anymore
deankn68 Nov 6, 2008 3:58 am
I think the new system is the right way to go. You have to remember that the new rules effect a lot of players and of course you will hear complaint after complaint. But it will die down after a while. A lot of people don't like change but being a railbird is an honor and the true railbird will always stick around and participate.

Also, let me tell you that even though we cannot stop our pw form thieves, we have taken a bite into it. I keep tabs on it and can tell you that is has slowed down a bit. We still have the non railbirds but we have gotten people thinking.

Everything takes time. And this will all work out in the end. We will never be able to make everybody happy but we should try and make the active railbirds happy. They are the ones that make this site what it is. Any new railbird has a choice, participate...or leave. Just like most sites.
Univarn Nov 6, 2008 3:59 am

I disagree, they never make the requirements that crazy high and still won't They're just making it so if you hop on, write a blog and then never do anything ever again you won't keep getting the pw for meeting the reqs that one time - that's the key thing pw thieves do so now it'll force them even if they are pw thieves to be more active, and the longer they're active the more likely they'll slip, quit, or both .

I understand your points though, but I'm not sure I agree with you. Only time will tell though,

Spiltbongwater Nov 6, 2008 3:59 am
While I agree that the new password rules will most likely not stop the password thieves, it will increase activity from members who are unaware, or do not want to get a password from the theives. If it increases participation, that is a win for this sites host, the members, and just all around a good thing.
RichsGirl187 Nov 6, 2008 4:00 am
But is it alot for us to ask that OUR member be ACTIVE. Rather than log on to get password and log right back off?

Getting something for nothing basically?

I think thats a fair question, don't you?
factchecker Nov 6, 2008 4:00 am
Excellent points!!! its a no win situation- so just beat the invaders and smile
thinlizard Nov 6, 2008 4:06 am

Just a reply to u Wh!zzy.

I do not misunderstand the purpose of the site and your comments have not argued your point but reinforced mine. Please read what i said again, then what u wrote and maybe u will see.

No (true railbirds?) get passwords for being active.

That was the case, now this will change. your comment makes no sense.

The only people posting are people that now want passwords! That is my exact point so what are u talking about??

And yes I do know what the new rule will do, and not what you say will happen. It will drive members of this site to other sites that reveal passwords. Tonight is proof of that and all the next railbird games will be the same until the situation is changed.

So everything u said is pointless and will never resolve the situation. Thank you please.

Indeed, all the talk recently has made me more aware of password thieves, so I did a web search and I visited the first site that had the most hits on my search.

From what I understood from the site that I viewed, you either have to pay a monthly fee of about $20.00, or you need to be willing to risk your reputation by stealing Passwords from sites you currently belong to and exchange the infromation for "points". Also, they required you to sign an agreement that was about as convoluted and difficulte to understand as any I have ever read on the internet. Sounded like a GD lawyer site.

It's not really surpising that a bunch of thieves would be so worried about someone ripping them off.

Anyway, I left the site without a single stolen password, and frankly, I am sorry that I spent the time to find out what was going on. It was a scam on top of a scam!!!!!

Wh1zzy Nov 6, 2008 4:23 am

now don't take my words out of their context and make a new context of it....

i said No.....True railbirds that are active (you see no need for your ...(true railbirds?) .... the answer what a true railbirds is is given) will get their passwords, the main content here is ACTIVE and thus the comment makes sense

i said the only people posting RUBBISH, not the only people that are POSTING, don't make another sentence of what i write, i might be dutch, i know how to write.

And what you mean with " tonight is proof" did i miss something? did McCain win afterall? has the bomb dropped what? what?

p0ker_j0ker Nov 6, 2008 4:28 am
well in point one It might be the case that member that don't get the PW might go to the other site to get them-- but since there is no active member willing to give the PW out they will not find it on the other sites =)

I do agree 100% about point number 2 and have already noticed a huge influx of one line pointless blogs. This is something that we the member can solve very simple. Do not respond to blogs that do not add to the community!!! And vise versa If you find a blog you do enjoy make sure to comment and bump it up above those meaningless blogs .
thinlizard Nov 6, 2008 4:29 am

well if u couldnt find one single password online without dishing out ur credit card details you mustnt have looked too hard! Its very easy.

people who want passwords for good tourneys are not out to thieve anyone. They just want to try play poker better than everyone else for the most rewards for no cost.

but the actions taken on this site i believe will only send more and more people to these sites.

Cpt_Tapioca Nov 6, 2008 4:31 am
Unfortunately you are absolutely right in your first two points.... that will happen.
The spamming marathon as already commenced. Sooner or later though, the spammers will get tired and then the password sharing site will see a substancial increase in terms of membership.

But Richsgirl's point supersedes all of this. How can a forum survive if it's members aren't active?
JKravat Nov 6, 2008 4:34 am

You joined in late July and this is your very 1st blog post. You have made a total of 13 actions during this time period. Logging in only 2 times this month and 95 total. You have not been even close to being active in the Railbirds community.

You come here for the PW's I assume to enter the Freerolls as nearly all of us did in the beginning. I assume you lost your privileges of free PW's and this is an attempt to regain them by berating the changes made by the Railbird Staff.

It doesn't matter that it stops the thieves totally. Yet it has made a huge dent in the non-birds in our tournaments already. The field is down by close to 25% or more so far since the advent of the policies. This means less people get ITM, the payout is higher for those in it, and points for the tournaments mostly go to members who register their screennames, and it is more focused on active members of Railbirds. I have no problem with any of this.

If you hadn't noticed our tournaments had been overrun by non members, nearly 30+% of the field. Many were truly only Freerollers whose DONK ALLIN(BINGO) play every hand, was not only annoying but disrupted the play of fellow railbirds attempting to improve their game. Since you haven't been around much and must not have experienced this very often, you may have not been aware of how bad it had become. Now active members of our community can begin to enjoy the Freerolls again and improve their games.

You made a meaningful and intelligent post is the only reason I responded at all. I normally write nothing at all on the blogs of people just trying to pad their activity with rubbish posts.

GL on the felts...

i think its acutally made some improvement because ussally we were getting 1800 now we get 700-1k in entries and im seeing more and more real rbs playing now and not the fakes but idk thats just my opinion and we all have one if it was up to me id make the requirements higher than they already have because i still see people who shouldnt be in there but we are going to unless the requirements are extremely high i kno everyone cant be on here everyday of every minute but still if ya wanna be apart of something nething not even this there are always rules whether its work a club book group nething has rules but still i think its helped so far and thats my sign off take care everyone

ThinLizzard said, "people who want passwords for good tourneys are not out to thieve anyone. They just want to try play poker better than everyone else for the most rewards for no cost."

However that exactly what they are doing. It is no different than going to somebody's class reunion or wedding uninvited just because they want some good food.

They are thieves and crooks. Many of them also go into the tournaments with multiple accounts. They cannot be trusted by anybody.

Our pass words are easier to get right off of our site by being active than they are to get off of a site that steals for a site that offers it's members absolutely nothing. The one big one can't even get a poker site to put banners up on their site. They have to resort to dating sites that are well known for scamming other people.
p0ker_j0ker Nov 6, 2008 4:44 am
Good new for you is after all the responses to this blog you will be active!!!!!
p0ker_j0ker Nov 6, 2008 4:46 am
ps it could be the fact that it looks like this is the first blog you have posted on the site!!!!!
thinlizard Nov 6, 2008 4:49 am

to you Wh!zzy

you said NO true railbirds get passwords for being ACTIVE. This was not the case until recently. You are just stating the new rules which we all already know, And these new rules mean people must be active which in turn is sending railbirds to other sites and leading to all the rubbish posts. So whats your point?

And about your other point, im not taking your sentences out of context, and i dont care if ur dutch or from the north bleeding pole, but when u have a good solution to the problem post that and stop moaning to me. ty.
