How to handle male bashers

Nov 4, 2008 7:55 pm Report Abuse

I'd truely like some advice on handling guys who bash me when I win a hand. My name (probably not a smart choice, but it sounded good at the time) is Greengirl9 - so it is pretty evident I am female. When I win a hand I get a lot of static - like what a donkey, how could you call that raise, ur lucky now but won't hold on to those chips, etc.. sometimes worse things are said. I first instinct is to jump right back at them, but I tend to play alot more conservatively after those types of remarks, and then usually lose out in the end.

So - what should I do? Any suggestions from my fellow railbirds to help me improve my game would be appreciated.

You have to be a *****, if you know what I mean. Have to toughen up and don't let anything or anyone change your game... I guess you could say I have become a TTB( tough titty bitoch). GL hun hang in there and don't let the male pigs bother you............

who gives a ***** what other people think. play your game and if they say something like that just mute them and you dont have to listen to it. Everyone is entitled to play their cards in their own way. i normally just take it as a compliment in my own way. most of the time people actually played the hand bad themselves but they dont see it cuz they think they are right all the time. so anyway, gl and play on.

how about turning off the chat for a while and just concentrate on your game and enjoy your winnings

I say Mute and like magic I can't hear a thing . gl

From what I have seen there doesnt seem to be any distinction for male or female bashing. You are correct in that it is usually males that are doing the bashing but their targets dont seem to be gender distinguishable. If they lose no matter what they have, they will rant and rave no matter who the opposition is is. Personally I just play my own game and have a good chuckle at my fortune and theur misfortune.

It is little people who respond that way or someone that is trying to get you to go on tilt. I've found that almost all of the time the people who make those comments are not good poker players. One nice feature on every site is the ignore button. I've used it and find it very effective. The main thing is to have the attitude toward them that they are idiots and laugh at them.

Thanks everyone - I appreciate your wisdom and support.

It's not really fair to say they are calling you a donk because your a female.

IEatPrawns Nov 5, 2008 1:28 am
G'day the best response is no response and just play.
kardchik Nov 5, 2008 1:36 am
hang tuff- they are jealous you got the chips and not them. I ignore anything they say. Play your game how you want. Never let anyone intimidate you at a table whether it be live or online. Have confidence!!!!!!! GOOD LUCK
wuzzle Nov 5, 2008 1:37 am
Yep, gotta ignore the ranting or your game will suffer. Never, and I mean absolutely NEVER engage anyone that directs a crude remark your way. Answer me this: What possibly do you have to gain by engaging someone in a war of crude remarks? What do you have to lose? Your cash in a ring game or seat in a tourney. Best bet is to either turn off chat or just ignore and continue to play YOUR game. You'll be a far better player because of it, won't lose the respect of other players, and will learn to focus where it truly is needed, your game.

whenever someone bashes me I do not respond but I do laugh out loud! this keeps me from being on tilt but now i know he/she is on tilt and i go after his /her chips all the while LAUGHING!!
rtenley Nov 5, 2008 1:41 am
For some reason people don't like to lose, especially when they are outplayed, or they played bad themselves. I try to be the better person and just say "gg", and ignore their banter. If it gets to bad then mute them, but definately don't change your game that got you to that point. GL

I think you have a very good point , certain people can't handle

losing to a female , not all but some of them , I am female

but my name doesn't show that , if I am using a female or male

avatar I can see a big difference in the responses at times ,

I also have been playing a long time so I have no problem

being fairly aggressive in my playing style at all but I never

change my style of play and I never respond to rudeness ,

that's what they want so I never give it to them lol ,

I do make a point of being

extra nice to the other players at the table though lol , but I

simply completely ignore the rude ones ,no chat to them at all ,

they get the hint lol , also if it's foul language I report it too ,

after a while when I have their chips they get real quiet lol , gl

Just don't hold all of us men accountable for some of the low lifes out there thats all i ask .
PapaPower Nov 5, 2008 1:59 am

Be a lady and be polite. Say:

"Thank you very much for your chips."

It will drive them CRAZY if that's ALL you say.

SHERRY524 Nov 5, 2008 2:11 am
I would suggest using the mute button until you are conditioned to it. Its pretty normal to have these comments unfortunately. You will get used to it.
Sandman-Michael Nov 5, 2008 2:25 am

Women, no head for the game ... I am kidding of course. I almost always ignore everything other than the old NH or GG stuff. I mute the boneheads or just don't bother to answer them. As for changing your game, don't. Play the cards you want, how you want. Luck is part of any game, so the Best of Luck to you.

tim4u Nov 5, 2008 2:51 am

always be positive,,,,,the more they bash you ,,,,the more you apolgize for being a bad player,,,if they call you names,,,agree with them,,,acknowledge your ignorance(even if you know better),,,they seek to upset you and by showing a positive response they have no recorse to this,,,,myself i dont care what ppl think,,,,and if by chance they beleive i am weak it gives me an edge,,, giving me the chance to slow play a big hand or check raising a weak bluff..

good gaming and good luck

ps,,,,if they use foul language contact a moderator and report them,,zero tolerance

I think men sometimes take us ladies for granted, but it's a minimal amount .... these minimals automatically assume that you won't last and your plays or strategies don't matter.

I stress it is a minimal amount of men, but it does happen. And it's just a ploy to throw you off your game. Stay focused and play your game.

Just kick their azzes around the table a bit and they won't be there no more!!
