Why do so many people play bad aces?

Nov 4, 2008 6:09 am Report Abuse

I am just looking for some imput and or theories on why people play all of their aces. I guess I just don't understand why it seems many people can't fold an ace preflop in any pot, any situation. I have seen it a lot latly. For ex. I was playing the the ftops bb with kk 5 limpers 50/100 blinds. I raise to 550 I get two calls. One from middle pair one from (Ah) (2h) and unknown hand that folded after the flop. I understand calling the raise with the pp but the A2 throws me a lil. I am assuming that the other player in had an ace as well. I understand the a2 calling after the flop. I have no problem with that had a bunch of draws, heart draw, gutshot strait draw, I know people don't fold nut flush draws even if they pry should. I just don't understand playing a week ace to a raise if you hit what are you gonna do call it down? I mean what do you put the raiser on. I don't know how he can call a2 hearts to a raise to 550 from 100 for 10% of your chips preflop. I am not new to poker but I just don't see the value of playing a week ace in a raised pot. How does everyone else feel about it?

um, thank them? they're just donating value to you, don't try to stop them from playing weak aces. they play them because they're idiots.
Diamond_Onyx Nov 4, 2008 6:20 am
I would like to know the answer to that also, because I am like that. I almost always play my ace no matter what. I don't play for more then 33% of my chips unless it's an AK. The problem that keeps me doing it is that I catch a lot online. Online I see a lot of aces on the flop, on a live table I would never do it with a small ace.

PS: I'm not an idiot!!! That is just rude.
sellittologan Nov 4, 2008 6:23 am

lol, THIS site and every other site is full of donkeys that can not fold any ace...i just dont get the point of getting into a poker community and not trying to get any better at poker................and as far as everyone else goes...i have no idea how and why you call with such garbage, and while on this weak ace rant......A 10 is not a good starting hand..........i swear to god if someone calls another raise i make with ace 10 i am gonna have to get a new laptop / rant

sellittologan Nov 4, 2008 6:25 am
if you play every ace, then yes you are an idiot sir
watchdog26 Nov 4, 2008 6:27 am

The same reason people call with any 2 suited cards, cuz 9x out of 10 they seem to get rewarded for it.

A10 isn't a good starting hand?

I'm guessing your not taking position, the amount of people in the pot or anything like that into account huh?

LOL at on-line its ok but Id never do it live LMAO
If its bad poker its bad poker every where.
I am just saying

I have done the new laptop hahahahaha not fun. Well I should take that back it pry was fun but sucked the next day. Also many times threatened to throw it out the window I may as well have that night. I don't understand why soooo many people can't fold and ace and was looking for some imput. I agree a10 isnt a good ace. I have no problem folding aj or aq or ak as far as that goes. If I don't like that spot I am in I will lay down any hand and not feel bad about it. I understand playing weak aces at a short table as not as many hands against you. Gl yall keep the opinions coming. At least I am not the only person who thinks playing weak aces is a bad play.

sellittologan Nov 4, 2008 6:33 am

Depending on position and price, I would like to see the flop with A 10.

A 6-9 are usually an easy muck for me unless its short handed. weak kicker value and no straight possibility. Has to be suited for any chance.

A 2-5 low kicker value but at least you have a chance at a straight. Really depends on number of players at the table, opponent play and table position, but more often than not it hits the muck too. Prefer it to be suited.

watchdog26 Nov 4, 2008 6:38 am
So it's not just a blanket statement then that A10 isn't a good starting hand, in fact given certain circumstances it is a good starting hand, correct?
sac_blankn Nov 4, 2008 6:38 am
a10 depends on so many things its like playing jj.
sellittologan Nov 4, 2008 6:43 am
from the button in an UNOPEND pot, and obv from the BB when the cut off or buttong trys to steal......any other time A10 really is a bad hand.
sellittologan Nov 4, 2008 6:45 am
plz plz tell me how A10 really is a good hand? i mean really what are you beating with it.....if you flop an ace you are 99% of the time outkicked....so really you need to flop 2 pair with A10 for it to be any good, or broadway, trust me i have a ton of poker under my belt and A10 is 100% a fold at almost any spot at the table
sellittologan Nov 4, 2008 6:46 am
i would soooo love to know that answer to that, i mean do you call a raise pre with A10....i mean you have to have the raiser on a sick range of about 33-99 to even think of calling IMO
sac_blankn Nov 4, 2008 6:46 am
Lol I love how this has turned from bad aces to middle aces. Its still great talk. I am still baffled on the bad ace play especial to a big raise. But I have to remember they are all way better than me. They tell me all the time after they outdraw me.....hahahaha. Gl everyone time for some sleep long day at the farm. Ill check back in the morn for some more comments.

I don't know why people insist on playing weak Aces ,

I even had a guy throw a fit at me one day because he lost

with A2 to my AQ , he kept saying what was he suppposed to

do he had and Ace he couldn't fold lol , I listened to him go

on for a while and I finally said yes FOLD , what was a 2 going

to beat exactly ,playing weak Aces is just asking to lose , gl

CAustin919 Nov 4, 2008 6:48 am
You seem to be discounting the other factors and the fact that when you have a pocket Ace and you hit on the flop, 65% of the time you will be the only one with an ace.
